It's not really about "evilness"; it's more about the harshness and scuzziness of the vocals and the production that Destruction and Sodom have but Slayer don't.

Surely it's not the 'eeevil' element, but the music itself? Old Slayer is more Judas Priest than it is Black Metal... what we call BM nowadays was started by Bathory/Venom/Mayhem etc, surely? Just because Motorhead had influence on it doesn't mean we call them Black Metal.

Edit: yeah, what rio said.

But when you call Venom BM, and Slayer had much Venom influence (Black Magic)...or would you say, they were not Black Thrash, because of the better production???

You have to consider Venom is BM in the first place... They're as much BM as Steppenwolf or Blue Cheer or heavy metal (aka the prehistory of...).

People just don't refer to those bands as Black Thrash these days. Early Black Metal had Thrash elements just as early Death Metal did, but that doesn't mean we have to have this sort of tiresome argument over which genre it belongs to.

Black Thrash is Thrash Metal that bears the influence of the second wave (aka Norwegian) of Black Metal.
By your stupid standards, even Metallica can, at times, be labeled Black Thrash.
No they can't because Metallica never used upside down crosses, pentagrams and satanic lyrics.

And you are wrong. Black Thrash was there long before the second norwegian wave, because the second wave had the black thrash from sodom, kreator, destruction (and sure Slayer) as their main influence. Fenriz from Darkthrone said, that when he saw Slayer Live with Hell Awaits, it was his way to the dark side (figuratively).

Just compare the cover from Desaster http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wh-HciEZaQ with the original from Kreator http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBTgBkQqeOE . There is no fucking evil difference.

Or take this from sodom http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KoIxBvUZKE . THAT was Black (Thrash) Metal.

Or this from Destruction http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDI2jfNiOOM

Or this from Slayer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKpjCkkVjN0

All you're proving with that display is that thrash rules and BM just copied it which makes this thread even more pointless.
Thank you.

If you can't tell the difference between Black metal and Thrash, you should stop posting about it and learn a bit more.

Seriously this whole Sodom, Destruction and Slayer is Black Metal / Black Thrash bit is fucking stupid.

The second wave was most probably very influenced by those bands, but there is nothing in common With Burzum, Darkthrone or Mayhem (the big three of the second wave) and Destruction, Slayer and Sodom musically... the riff structures are totally different, the drums are totally different and the vox are totally different.

Is Deicide, Morbid Angel etc. Black / Death Metal?
Or early Motley crue Black / Glam?
No.

Shocked, no. A tad surprised that we finally can get along I must say...
And you're damn right by the way but all those youngsters just don't get it. They're missing the perspective of time and the wisdom that comes with age.

I will grant that early, early Sodom and even Hellhammer had some of the qualities of what was to become Black Metal, but Slayer and Destruction? Get the fuck outta here.

But listen to this:

then, this:

and tell me there is any similarity at all.

Anyone who thinks black/thrash is just thrash should listen to earlier Desaster, Absu, Rotting Christ.

It involves thrah elements fused with harsh vocals and the tremolo picked leads/arpeggios of black metal bands, oftentimes also including bm-style drumming and keys.

On another note, Venom have always sucked, they are not black metal, and they didn't influence any of the second wave bands.
