I'm in the "Megadeth-sucked-exept-on-their-first-two-albums" category. Where does that place me?

I think into the "too" old school category. :P

Well, I find it really great... Great songs and an incredible effort of one of my favourite guitar players, Marty Friedman.

Hmm, where to start? Oh yeah, I'll go with, let's see...every song with the possible exception of Take No Prisoners and Dawn Patrol.

RiP ist one of the most exciting and thrilling and ambitious Thrash/Speed Metal albums ever. The style of some instrumental parts is even copied by Dream Theater. (e.g. the solo parts of Hangar 18, Lucretia or Tornado of Souls are IMO progressive metal at it's best)

Honestly, last time I've tried it (might have been 2/3 years ago), I couldn't see what all the fuss was about. There are many thrash albums which are much better than RiP... And Friedman's soloing is indulgent at best, very overrated instrumentalist if you ask me. And then, there's Mustaine vocals, while I can stomach them in old-school trashing like the first two Megadeth albums, I don't think it fits the "ambitious" compositions on RiP. I don't like Mike Clink's production, it doesn't live up to his usual standards...
Mind, I'm not saying it's a bad album, it isn't, just not up to to its reputation as one of the most outstanding thrash albums ever.

It annoys the shit out of me personally. Plus it has the unenviable task of following on the heels of an absolute asskicking opening tandem of songs.
