Here's something I wasn't expecting in 2009. White Wizzard (from Los Angeles, US of A) play old-school heavy metal à la NWOBHM, on melodic "hard rocky" side of it that is. This sounds a bit like early-Def Leppard mixed with early-Tygers of Pan Tang with some early 80s American hair metal influences (Mötley Crüe, Ratt) and Maidenesque duelling guitars thrown in.
All in all, their debut EP (High Speed GTO) is very entertaining and worth checking for those looking for old-school heavy metal/hard rock sound.

This band is ok. From what I understand the drummer auditioned for Slough Feg before they settled on their current drummer.

Also, great melodic hard rock/nwobhm is a band called High Spirits. They just have demo material but its awesome.

IMHO, they're a little more than just okay... But maybe they're too "sunny happy" for your grim taste in heavy which I understand perfectly. After all, they're Angelenos and, though rooted in the NWOBHM, they music shows their geographic origin.

I enjoy some good ole light hearted rockin. I do agree that they have shades of the Tygers of Pan Tang in that there is some more light heartedness involved....Def Leppard to as you noted earlier.

You check out that High Spirits band?

I wasn't very metal today... It wouldn't have been fair to you and to that band to listen to them.

I can break these cuffs!! That video was pretty fun. Is this as interesting as it gets though?

More bands need Odin to do guest solos.

Did they change their lead vocalist? The guy in the picture doesnt look like the lead singer in the video "High Speed GTO" ?

I sort of agree with this .. wizzard didn't really keep my attention and high spirits just has better riffs. Granted high spirits needs polish, esp with the vocals. Guy needs to learn some control.

I actually like how unrestrained he is sometimes. It's refreshing when a band can just let loose and rock as opposed to these uber technical bands that sound so stiff and dry.
