Frontiers Records has announced the release of JORN's brand new studio album, entitled "Spirit Black", on June 5 in Europe and July 14 in the USA.

According to Jorn: "The sound of the album is like a crossover between 'The Duke' and 'Lonely Are The Brave', and I feel that some of the songs on 'Spirit Black' have the potential to become essential hard rock classics that will stand the test of time."

I wish there was a sleeping emoticon... I'll use this one . My eyes are closed under those sunglasses. I fall asleep when I listen to Jorn's solo stuff.

If you listen to "Lonely Are The Brave", I think no-one can blame you. :D
But "The Duke" and "Worldchanger" are Hard Rock at it's finest.

Here's the title track from the album. Sounds awesome! Certainly much better than anything on the abysmal Lonely Are The Brave. Give this album a chance, then review it.

I've got a copy of it and I'm liking it. He does a killer version of Tarja's 'I Walk Alone'.

I disagree. It has both more emphasis on melodies and power than Lonely Are The Brave. The guitars have a better, thicker sound. Jorn sounds, like you said, terrific. And IMO, the overall feeling of this album is outstanding. The songs aren't filled to the brim with double-bass pedals or keyboard wankery, yet they are sounding just as powerful as pretty much everything out there. High-quality A-material are key-words when trying to describe Jorn's music. And this album fits right in.

You have every right to disagree but, having listened to this album 3 times, I stand by what I said, it's boring. Granted, it's slightly better than his previous but the songs just don't grab me.

I see what you mean. The songs follow a simpler formula that Jorn has been using since The Duke. And perhaps that is why I think his last two haven't been as strong as that album or even Out To Every Nation... even though this is a MAJOR improvement over the previous one. :)
