Sort of, but only once those scandoinavian bands appeared. Before that BM was much vaguer and arguably included bands like Bathory, Venom, even dudes like Sarcofago, which is all a long way from technicality. (Even if you don't class them as BM, they're still metal, and so disprove the "metal is technical" thesis).

Even now, it's not a defining characteristic- look at bands like Xasthur, who I think anybody would struggle to call "technical".

(Plus, I dunno if the tremolo picking is hard enough to make something technical by definition anyway... but then I'm not a guitarist, and it's very subjective.)

Then, don't forget doom metal!

1. Are you male or female? Male
2. What is your age group? 0-20
3. What is your education level? College undergraduate (It's what I'm doing right now, not something I've completed)
4. What are your political tendencies? Left-leaning
5. How do you define your religious beliefs or lack of them? Agnosticism

Some questions on your relationship to music:

6. How often do you physically purchase albums (not legal downloading)? 2-5 times a month, although it depends since sometimes I'll buy like 10 albums at once then not get anything else for a while, while at others I'll be downtown a lot and end up picking up stuff from record stores fairly often.
7. How many hours do you spend listening to music each day? 3-5
8. How often do you go to concerts? Twice a year is probably the closest answer.
9. Do you more often buy albums or download albums? Download
10. Do you play an instrument? Yes
11. Have you ever been part of a music group that released some form of album? No

Now some questions about heavy metal bands in particular.

12. Image is important for a heavy metal band. Strongly agree.
13. Technique is important for a heavy metal band. Strongly agree. (theoretically I could like a band that doesn't have great technique but for all of my favourite bands in any style of music I'm envious of their skill/knowledge)
14. Lyrical content is important for a heavy metal band. Somewhat agree.
15. Political views are important for liking a metal band. Somewhat disagree

Questions about how you live as a fan:

16. Apparel is important for a metal fan. Somewhat agree. (I totally felt silly at a Dismember concert because I didn't look like anyone there D:)
17. It is important to listen to genres other than heavy metal. Neutral.
18. It is important to listen to as many genres as possible. Neutral. (for both those questions my view is that people should listen to what they enjoy)
19. What is the most important element of a metal band? Songwriting.
20. Which is the most important band of the following? idk

No me gusta utilizarlos en la ciudad, es un mal viaje. Lo mejor es ir al bosque, encontrarlos y ahi mismo comerlos. Sentir la energía que emana de ellos es surreal.
