Ok, I've pulled up a first draft of the survey I'll be using for my paper. If you could spare the 5 minutes and answer it I'd be really grateful. Cheers!

It fits under Oriental Philosophy, was my reasoning. I wasn't going to make separate boxes for Confucianism, Taoism, ecc.

I figured Sabbath would be too big a variable for comparison, overshadowing all of those. With Ozzy you get a popular metal performer who's not as kitchy as Motley Crue, but with a link to Sabbath giving deeper credibility.

Thanks, Legacy, Ganesha and Seinfeld. It's not for a class, it's for a paper I need to write for my IB diploma. Social and Cultural Anthropological study of the Heavy Metal Subculture.

That one depends a lot on subgenre... in black metal technique really isn't that important at all. I agreed with the statement because metal bands in general do tend to emphasise those things more than mainstream rock or other related styles, but it's certainly not universal.

But isn't a defining part of black metal the rapid tremolo picking and double bass drumming?
