Since the topic of earlier Priest came up, I am not sure if I like earlier Priest that much. I have seen someone mention that Killing Machine is inconsistent and I agree. But I also picked up Sin After Sin and thought it to be just ok. Now, I am thinking whether I should pick up Stained Class or not.

SAD WINGS OF DESTINY.

Now, now. No need to reply.

Just head on out and pick up a copy.

It's not worth it, just let him leave.

Ah, a Priest thread! Tough one. I'll probably go with:

Jawbreaker
Victim of Changes
and
Leather Rebel if in warrior mood/Blood Red Skies otherwise

You seriously need to GTFO.

Not to me. And Devoted Peanut, you really seem to have problem with me not liking earlier Priest as much as you do. I never said earlier Priest was bad. I said I found the albums I picked up to be inconsistent. And your asking me to "seriously" GTFO is not taken seriously. Stained Class isn't available around here. Have placed a request for it. Will see how soon it arrives.

Well you won't be disappointed with SC. The album is killer track to track.

Here's the thing.....Judas Priest did all of their innovating on Sad Wings, Sin After Sin, and Stained Class.....after that they just set themselves on cruise control and glided through the 80's. It wouldnt be until Painkiller that they'd have to prove themselves again.

The 70's material is far far superior to anything they did in the 80's. The material on those albums, along with the early Sabbath albums, were the exact recipe for heavy metal. Almost everything done now a days was done already by Judas Priest in the 70's. Once power and speed metal took off, JP sat by patiently until they would have to reassert themselves with Painkiller, which essentially was JP saying "Look children, this is how Daddy does it." So basically the 80's was just a period of cruising between assertions of heavy metal authority.

I like the way you think, but still... British Steel, Screaming For Vengeance and Defenders Of The Faith are great CD's. I don't know if they had to prove something during the mid-80's but these albums ARE proof of Heavy Metal mastery.

I agree with 2/3 of what you said. I don't find British Steel to be that great of an album, frankly I get bored quickly with it, however, Defenders and Screaming for Vengance are indeed excellently awesome.

In retrospect I don't think their 70's is better than their 80's material. The way I see it I think they are both equal as far as excellence.

You have their 70's best Sad Wings,Sin and Stained and you have their 80's best Screaming,Defenders and Painkiller all are par with each other IMHO.

Technically, Painkiller is 80s. Decade X starts with year X1 and ends with year (X+1)0. That's why the third millennium begins with 2001, not 2000, and 1990 belongs to the 80s.
