Some songs are very cool, but for the most part UA is forgettable. Better than Death Magnetic though.
Nahhh, DM is way better. The Problem of UA is, that after the two very good opening songs, all turns into a midtempo blahblah with only 2 or 3 better songs. Most of them are too slow for Megadeth. And that's why IMO Youthanasia is far from beeing their best Record, because it's just not more megadeth. It's Popdeth from the beginning to the end. It's even more annoying than Cryptic Writings or Risk, because they have a lot more variety while Youthanasia is all the same midtempo and it also fact, that the producers (or record company) wanted to play all songs the same tempo (Dave said that in an interview).

"Flamingo," the demo version is far better, in my opinion.

As for Megadeth, I don't really care much for the last few, these "return to roots" albums. Sort of like a band trying too hard. I'd rather the Countdown or Youthanasia (their best album) or Cryptic Writings stuff. Sure, not as fast or heavy, but better quality songs.

Though I definitely don't want Cryptic Writings part 2, I'll agree here that what Megadeth were doing with an album like Youthanasia was much better than what they've done in their past two (Youthanasia is seriously a fantastic album). I really have not been impressed with Megadeth over the past while- as I wrote earlier, each album seems to have a few good songs and then a lot of crap. To do the Metallica comparison: I'd take Death Magnetic over the past two Megadeths. I'm hoping this one will be better.

But UA and TSHF are a lot better than St. Anger e.g. or the other Loads. And better than Risk and TWNAH too. And IMO also better than Youthanasia and Cryptic Writings, because the last two records brought the Thrash Metal back to Megadeth, while all albums after Countdown had less and less thrash elements and too much melodic Pop-Rock and were much too radio friendly - whereas TWNAH was just a lame try and endet in a boring snoozefest.

On the other Side TSHA and UA had many great fresh sounding songs with the power and speed which we've last heard on RIP and Countdown. Ok, there were some lame midtempo and melodic stuff, but songs like Sleepwalker, Kick the Chair, Blackmail the Universe, Die Dead Enough, Washington is Next, Amerikhastan have a freshness which was long lost.

Now, Head Crusher is IMO a different Beast, because THIS has now the vibe which was lost somewhere between Peace Sells, So Far So Good and Rust in Peace. E.G. the break in the middle is nearly Slayer like. The opening riffs are as wild as only Warbringer could deliver today. The pop melodies are mostly gone, the Thrash is nearly 100% back. And if Song 9 or so is so great, how awesome will the rest be?

Umm I found Headcrusher really boring.

DM was better than UA. Equally retarded lyrics but much better riffs.

Headcrusher sounds weird its almost like...they're trying to make the song sound faster than it actually is, if you know what I mean. Mustaine's voice sounds particularly weak too. Nifty lead playing though.

This headcrusher download got my appetite all whet, so I went back and listened to UA from beginning to end just now for the first time in like a year or something.

Wanted to rock the fuck out.

Strangely... not as awesome as I remembered....definitely a diminished return.

Just a small handful of good tracks and suddenly all the rest sounds a bit like filler.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I gave it 3/5 when I reviewed it and have barely listened to it since. Definitely it makes an initial impact but fades very, very quickly.

I do dig Youthanasia, it has some great tracks on, but I wouldn't say it was even close to RIP.

Ooft, now there's an inconsistent, rushed-sounding album.

Youthansia I like, but there's not enough variety of tempo across it for my tastes.

So Far So Good....So What! is awesome, but it's held back by being too short. I think it clocks in at something like 38:00 minutes. It has more memorable riffs on it than RIP, but RIP has more memorable songs. SFSG also loses points for that dreadful Anarchy in the UK cover. Still though, I pull that one out more often than I do RIP. Set the World on Fire, 502, Liar, Hook in Mouth, In My Darkest Hour, all great stuff.

It's one of my favorite albums by Megadeth. I think my favorite would be Cryptic Writings or Countdown to Extinction. Peace Sells is up there, as well.

I love RIP but it's not my favorite.

I always thought Killing Is My Business got a bum deal.

Fucken great album.

I never picked up the remaster, but I've read it's like a whole new album, and if that's true it would definitely be in the running for best Megadeth.

PS, RIP, CtE, KIMB. These 4 are really great. I always found SFSG very inconsistent, but has one of my fav deth songs: In my darkest hour.

RIP is my fav megadeth.

UA is good, the best since Youthanasia, but it's not as good as Youthanasia.

Wow, I'm impressed. This is probably the thrashiest song Mustaine has done since Tornado Of Souls. My only problem with it is that I'm not quite sure his older/raspier voice really fits the music. He should've, at least, tried to sing at a higher pitch. Then it would've been perfect.

Glad to see Cryptic Writings getting some love here, for a change. That's a great album IMO.

And Youthanasia is my favorite too.

Definitely get it. It sounds much, much better. The only drawback is the hilariously censored version of These Boots. Its my favorite along with Peace Sells, with RIP just a touch behind.
