So...

I don't like Behemoth because they are popular now? Thank god that's cleared up. I always thought that I didn't like them, was because I DIDN"T LIKE THEM. But now there is a valid reason behind it. Thank's again.

yes, I was clearly talking to you, the person who has never liked Behemoth, when I made specific references to people who say Behemoth 'sold out' or are in the process of 'selling out,.'

on a COMPLETELY UNRELATED note, have you considered selling a series of phonics comprehension books called DevotedWalnutOnPhonics which teaches the delicate art of shoehorning yourself into everything?

Never thought of it, but it's a good idea.

I will now leave this thread with mytail between my legs. Thanks much.

I didn't know we had people on this website that don't like Behemoth. They're awesome. Inferno might be the best drummer on Earth right now. But that's just my opinion.

Well, Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy and Flo Mounier dying in a plane crash would go some way to make your post less silly. My opinion, of course.

Don't think I would call any death metal drummer the greatest drummer because triggers limit their dynamics a lot, although they're necessary for making the bass drums not sound like a wall of noise.

Not all death metal uses drum triggers.

Yeah, I guess I should have been more specific... but if a drummer did what the guy from Behemoth or Flo does without triggers, then it would just sound like a wall of bass

Listening to their old stuff again, it is pretty darn good. Still prefer Death era, though.

And how are Nile and Hate Eternal currently 'Modern Death Metal'? And wtf is Modern Death Metal anyways?

i don't know exactly what ''modern death metal'' is, but i know what it's not: albums like Pestilence's Consuming Impulse, Obituary's Slowly We Rot, Suffocation's Effigy of the Forgotten, Deicide's self titled, Morgoth's Cursed, Morbid Angel's Blessed are the Sick, Gorefest's Mindloss, Death's Scream Bloody Gore, Possessed's 7 Churches and so on...stuff that has definitely nothing to do with the likes of Behemoth, Hate eternal or Nile.

All released how long ago? You are saying that bands should play exactly like other bands did 15 years ago?

+1

And there are many others who could be named. Bill Bruford, Carl Palmer, Thomas Pridgen....etc, etc, etc.

IMO prog drummers tend to be more accomplished than non-prog drummers (whether metal or not). They don't just play crazy time signatures like 11/4 or 13/8, but they make them sound easy as pie, throwing in fills all over the place, with heaps of variety.

By comparison death/thrash/black metal drummers seem a little bit limited (That does not by any stretch of the imagination mean they're shit).
