Anybody likes procupine tree here ?
if so, did you get to listen to their most recent release
Deadwing ? I Purchased their follow up to 2002's In Absentia and it's
pretty damn amazing. They kept on going with the metal influences
just listen to "Shallow" and you'll be astonished by this bands talents.
they also have great softer moments such as the beautiful Lazarus.
Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth does some harmony vocals on three songs: Deadwing, Lazarus, and Arriving somewhere but not here.
Steven Wilson is a genius and this album is nothing short of a masterpiece and is a very thrilling experience! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I wasn't that convinced with In Absentia so I'm not so sure that Deadwing will convince me.. but I'll give it a try anyway...

btw, I like PC very much.. my fav' albums are Signigy (their best floydian effort) & Stupid Dream (this one is a classic, too bad so few ppl know about it)..

one last thing, if you enjoy PC that much you should look after the Blackfield album... wonderful side project by Steven Wilson with an Israeli friend of his...

I heard one song(shallow) by them because my friend is into all that prog stuff and tis actually a pretty good song, he says he is gonna get that album and if he does i shall further let you know what i think

In Absentia was the first album I had heard from Porcupine Tree, and loved it very much. But since they had many other albums and EP's and whatnot's I wasn't sure which other albums I would enjoy. Now 2 years later Deadwing is released and I love it as much. So I'll most likely try to get a hold of one of the albums you just mentionned. Thanks TIE.

From the two albums you mentioned TIE only Signify is purchasable.
Stupid Dream is out of print and is hard to find. When you find a copy it usually costs over 80$ U.S.
Kinda sucks. Porcupine Tree CD's before In Absentia
are not easy to find.

In Absentia was my first one too, and what a fuckin' killer album it is.

Did you get Deadwing yet ? If you liked In Absentia you should also like their newest release. I've been listening to it repeatedly over the past 3 days. I'll try to get my hands on the Signify CD within the next month or so.

And how exactly did My Chemical Romance help make "prog-metal" fashionable again? These guys that write at Amazon know shit about what they write....

I agree they are pretty damn good, but Steve Wilson you gota love ....becuse he's in Porcupine Tree, he's from Hemel, and most importantly he influenced Mickael Akafeld(dont know how to spell)

I bought In Absentia and it took quite a few listens but now I absolutely love that album. I pretty much downloaded all their albums. Too damn hard to find any of their older albums which are fucking amazingly under-rated. I can't get enough of this band. Definitly a strong contender for one of my favorite bands ever.

Favorite songs change daily but a few I really like are Hatesong, Don't Hate Me, Arriving Somewhere but not Here, Strip the Soul, .3, Even Less.....and the rest...

Yeah, that gave me a big WTF moment too.

In any case...

Porcupine Tree is fucking awesome. No doubts about it.

Deadwing was pretty sweet, maybe not as good as In Absentia, but I think "Arriving Somewhere but not Here" is my favourite PTree song.

Deadwing is my 2nd favorite record of the year right after Dark Tranquillity's character. It never really left my CD player.
The balance between sweet mellencolic ballads such as Lazarus and hard rockers like Shallow and Open Car is great.

Since then I've purchased a copy of Stupid Dream and Signify.
Stupid Dream although a lot less heavy than the last two is astonishing, it's become one of my favorites. Signify is also quite good, but it has a lot of instrumentals and less singing from Steven Wilson which kind of dissapointed me at the start.


I'm really grateful this band exists, and hope they keep on making this type of music!
