No sense in even ranting about it, actually. You want metal discussions, start new threads. Of course, people may not respond. Haha. Just go back and look at all the threads I have out there with like one or two, or fucking ZERO, responses! Ah, I used to try, anyway.

Yeah, that's the problem right there, and it's kind of frustrating actually, when you try to get a new fucking GREAT band across and people just ignore it but jump a britpop thread like horny rabbits looking for action

Yeah, but metal isn't new to them. Metal is metal, for the most part. And who's to say they didn't check out the band? Maybe they did; maybe they dug what they heard. But maybe they'd like to get more out of their time here, you know. Maybe it's more beneficial to them to broaden their horizons a bit rather than just talking about what new band is playing the same tired brand of power metal.

Not suggesting "tired" power metal can't be good, but there's only so much you can say about the Stratovariuses of the world. So discussing some new shit—to their ears, anyway—is probably more fun.

By the way, plenty of the acts mentioned in this thread before the crybabies turned up are "fucking GREAT bands" as well.

I get sick of people patronising metal and lecturing metalheads about not being open-minded enough. And I get equally sick of metalheads being twats when people start discussing non-metal music.

As far as I can remember this site has always been eclectic and open-minded; that is why it is different from a lot of other bullshit sites and why it has a smaller but dedicated group of posters. It is certainly why I am here.

Colour of Fire and Grammatics are both awesome bands, although I dunno if either of them are britpop. Colour of Fire are grungy and Grammatics are kinda proggy... but they're both poppy and from Britain and Owen Brimley writes neato songs.

What's interesting about this, is that many of you in defense of this thread now would have been on the other side of the argument just a few years ago.

First of all. Me and mr. Nut started out this argument as a joke, which I am pretty sure you understand. I don't want to get into a childish argument of who started what, but I hope that was pretty obvious.

First of all, I never called anyone too open-minded in a serious manner did I? I have just questioned why we're more eager to discuss brit-pop than to discuss metal. That's the majority of reason for why I am here, and I should probably get the fuck out of this thread fast. Before I do that however, I want to state that the problem is that there quite frankly isn't any serious metal-duiscussions going on here right now. That's why I sarted bitching a little, not being very serious at all, mind. As I said to Zad by the way, I will try to take charge and spawn some interesting threads over at the metal-forums, and as you yourself said, the lich lords need more attention.

By the way, I got called close-minded first. And that was fucking fast too. That is probably why I went from being not that serious to being a little more serious.

And I do also like the open-minded nature of the site, it's great with a little elbow space. However, it's getting a little much, for my tastes at least, and I am a little worried about that. But I guess I should keep that to myself, if I don't want to be labeled a crybaby again. Jeez

I concur. Pretty sweet but not really what I'd call britpop... :P

But obviously not old carcasses such as us two, Anus.

Well indeed, fair enough. Anyway, I didn't really mean to refer to you as a crybaby, you unfortunately got lumped in the blast with someone else infinitely more deserving of ridicule.

I don't agree that there is no serious metal discussion going on now, but I do agree that more active discussion of new bands/etc. would be great and all of us could make a collective effort to do that.

On the other hand, it's still rubbish that people here are keener to discuss britpop than metal. This thread would have died after a page and the half if the flamers hadn't turned up. There are loads of entirely metal-related threads longer than that.

This is quite cheeky as in my case it's the exact same thing I would have said two years ago... I am still a metal elitist, I just think it's healthy for metal elitists to discuss other types of music on the side :P

if "ruthless zinging" isn't metal I don't know what is... it could be the name of a tech death album.

Yes because I've completely lost count of how many Blur threads there have been over the years. I think it's almost something like 1. Getting into single figures, even.

By the way, the new Therapy? album rules. Once again the band changes things up. This one is really dark. Took a while for me to really dig on it.
