It lives up to its name because it is called metalreviews, and every week there are tons of reviews of metal albums. I've been here five years and there has always been people saying "it's becoming less of a metal site". In terms of the reviews done, it's never been more of a metal site. There are about 20 new reviews per week, there have never been that many on a regular basis in the past. Jeez, I remember when Misha was a regular reviewer, and every week we were getting jazz and classical reviews.

So yeah, the idea that in terms of the reviews we are moving away from being a metal site is total shit.

As for the forums; controversial topics get more responses, it's that simple. Half the reason the britpop thread is so long is because of people coming into it to complain.

I never once complained about the number of reviews, my comment about pop being reviewed was a joke. Ask Zad if you don't believe me.

As for everything else, yes controversial topics get more repsonses but it took me almost 3 pages to even say anything. You guys were chatting away like this was a friggin pop chat room, it is METALREVIEWS and I am sick of coming here and people are talking about Paramore or the Pogues or brit-pop or some other shit that is not metal or metal related. I am not trying to be an ass or a close minded fool, but god damn people need to get a clue. There is a place for that, and is not metalreviews.com.

End of rant.

Sorry but still crap. Because it's called metalreviews so there should be no discussion of anything else whatsoever? That's totally ridiculous. If you're sick of reading about things that aren't metal, why would you even open this thread? Even at places like metal-archives you get plenty of lengthy threads about non-metal related music. You say you're not trying to be close minded but really who gets this annoyed about there being a thread on pop music in a forum entitled "general music discussion"?

In fact, even in this section of the forum, by far the longest non-stickied thread (Upcoming albums) is overwhelmingly focussed on discussion of metal.

Anyway; it's not as if even this thread is entirely pop-related. Skunk Anansie and The Wildhearts are both fairly hard rock and might even be described as metal by some.

By the way this site is going, wont be very long til we have several. Then you can all say how open minded you are and how much better you guys are than us.

Sorry Walnut but this is total shit.

How so? My points are valid. This place is less of a metal site then it has ever been. It is a chat room that is titled MetalReviews. Where we talk about how we are feeling and suggest brit-pop to each other. Then when somebody, like myself, peeps up about it I get totally burned down and pretty much called an idiot. This is MetalReviews.com, I wish it would live up to it's name.

Does it not? This is actually just a forum connected to metalreviews.com.

I take no sides, of course, but just imagine how boring this forum would be if people discussed metal 24/7. Sounds great in theory, but forums like that suck. It's not natural for any human being to talk about the same shit all the time, and you surely can't have any semblance of community with such restrictions.

No sense in even ranting about it, actually. You want metal discussions, start new threads. Of course, people may not respond. Haha. Just go back and look at all the threads I have out there with like one or two, or fucking ZERO, responses! Ah, I used to try, anyway.

I don't even know half of the bands you fuckers review these days, which is sweet.

Yeah, that's the problem right there, and it's kind of frustrating actually, when you try to get a new fucking GREAT band across and people just ignore it but jump a britpop thread like horny rabbits looking for action

The fact that it's about a scene, and a diverse one that is, might explain why this gets more replies than any other thread concerning a semi-obscure thrash band.
It also shows that not every poster at Metal Forums is as close-minded as you are.
I like it that way and do hope it's not going to change.

That is true... threads about the thrash scene in general have been running to several pages recently, whereas if we were to pick an individual band from this thread it would get, like, 2 responses, probably. Metal_xxx is comparing apples and oranges.

The bottom line is, threads about specific bands are not as popular as threads about broad scenes, unless that band is someone like metallica.

I knew you'd jump, and what gives you the right to call me close-minded for not wanting to discuss brit-pop on a metal-foirum? Does that give away anything about my taste at all? The instant answer would probably be yes, but you Sir are wrong.

I sympathise up to a point, Thom. Reviewing as vast a range of stuff as I do ( ) getting responses sometimes is like bashing my head against a brick. Yet review some Thrash and everyone's all over it... really, it comes down to what people are used to and familiar with. Me and rio are familiar with britpop, it having been part of the soundtrack to our youth, and so when Fridge is asking for some suggestions and we're replying, this is not the imminent collapse of the forum. Fuck, five, six, seven people at most have seriously replied to this thread, out of a forum of how many? You guys complaining about the non-Metalness of this thread, GTFO and go to one of the many Metal threads which go unnoticed.

Which has been said before, many times, it must be noted. I think some people just wait for trolling opportunities rather than act out of a genuine love for Metal.

While I do agree with the points made that this would be less of a forum without threads like this, I must admit that I definitely understand users, me included, that drift of elsewhere to discuss metal, since there are very little activity going on in those forums around here at the moment..

That may be the reason that new users come by and doesn't stay for long. Just my two cents.

That's ridiculous. If you want to discuss metal, discuss metal! Start a new thread! The Prog/Power forum is stronger than ever, and gets way more posts than the Black/Death forum, so help the BD out! What, people can only follow and not lead?

Yeah, we need to give the Lich Lords some more love. In terms of subject matter it is so much cooler than its goofy neighbour upstairs, but it doesn't get as much attention... especially from the laydees.

Is it? Metal gets discussed here in upcoming albums.. You have a point though, and I agree to some extent. The topics that's created here though gets five proper answers and then it drifts into off-topicness. But allright, challenge taken.

Sometimes I think it's the way we divide it that makes the individual forums sometimes seem underpopulated. Most of the other metal message boards I visit just have a "metal discussion" bit, and then a "general chat" bit and all the rest.

Would you join a video game site and talke about going for a run? It just doesn't mesh well.

I'm not going to read and respond to all the comments in this thread, I'll just leave it alone.

But I did read one comment that said something about starting new metal threads if I don't like brit-pop threads. Well I have tried, so has several others. And most people would rather talk about how good Blur is or how Paramore has a new album out.

Why do I even care? It's not like complaining is going to get anything done. I'll stay at this site and add to the chat-room feel, but I will take my metal discussions elsewhere.

Good day.

Blah blah blah people are talking about types of music I don't like

Go cry about it rather than making the britpop thread you have such issue with go on for another x pages.

Sorrey to be harsh, but.... yeah.
