Yep, it's been the same song and dance ever since The World Needs a Hero. It's always the heaviest thing he's written in years, and then he invokes the holy name of Rust in Peace. He's probably got it scripted by now. I expect more of the same, good music with embarrassing lyrics, and a song dedicated to Jeebus. He's got a whole new formula he's working with now, kids.

I have to agree that Mustaine has become increasingly predictable in his forecasting of new Megadeth material. At least he's enthusiastic about it. I mean, he could sound like Don Dokken....."If this one flops then I am done with music."

The System Has Failed was awesome. But United Abominations was IMO pretty forgettable. Sleepwalker and Gears Of War were good songs. As were Washington Is Next and Amerikhastan. But the rest was pretty meh (and the original A Tout Le Monde was IMO much better than the remake).

That said, I'll just wait and listen before passing judgement on the new album.

You forgot the last 2 song on UA, can't remember their names but they had some good moments.

Every artist does this, no matter what medium. No artist could finish a work and go, "Yep. Not as good as the last piece." Hell fucking no. If they did that, these people would mentally and emotionally fall apart.

So at first they always declare it the best they've done. It's usually after some time has passed that they become more objective and rational about what they created.

Kerry King did, however, once say something to the effect of "Nobody can top Reign In Blood. Not even us, so we aren't even going to try anymore." If that's even relevant.

Really, the only Megadeth album I would consider "bad" is Risk. And even that had its moments. Prince Of Darkness and Crush'em were cool songs. And I kind of liked Ecstasy and Wanderlust (even though the latter sounded, to me, like a wannabe Soundgarden song - but hey, it paid tribute to one of my favorite actors so that's gotta be worth something!). United Abominations, meanwhile, was average. However, the other albums were IMO good to amazing (my favorites being Youthanasia and Rust In Peace, with the former getting the nod by a hair). And I don't care what anybody says: I love Cryptic Writings. There are some really good songs on it, both musically and lyrically. In fact, I'd say it's probably Megadeth's lyrically strongest album.

Although, I should probably mention that I haven't heard Killing Is My Business or So Far, So Good, So What (yet).

Yeah, you should get on that.

In an interview when Hardworlder came out, Mike Scalzi said that he thought Down Among the Deadmen was the best Slough Feg album. I haven't seen anyone else do it though.

I'm sure he's quite pleased with his and the bands work on the new album. I'm just pointing out you can pretty much interchange every single press release he's done in the past 10 years. I wasn't joking with the scripted line. And why even bring up Rust in Peace or Countdown to Extinction, that's just placing unneeded expectations on the album. Expectations that won't be met, simply because Dave's not the same guy who made those albums anymore, and he doesn't even have the same band behind him anymore. I just think it's silly, those two albums are heavy metal classics and nothing's going to live up to them, not that this new album has to, but he's forcing the comparisons on himself when he says stuff like that.

People would compare this to older 'Deth albums whatever Dave says. I'm sure the first line of many reviews will be "OK, it's not Rust In Peace part 2, but..."

And Seinfeld, preferring Cryptic Yawnings to United Abominations?!

United Abomination sucked... Well, everything 'Deth released after Risk sucks anyway.

I'd say, only "The World Needs a Hero" sucks, because ist just boring. TSHF and UA are IMO at least good Albums with much more thrash, metal and attitude than mid 90s rocker like Youthanasia or Risk.

Lucifer's Son is a walking bundle of clichés.

I do, however, prefer The System Has Failed over CW. If that means anything.

Just for the record, I still stand by my opinion that Countdown is overrated. Nonetheless, it's a great album. My favorite song being Architecture Of Aggression (partially because I actually remember The Gulf War, which the song is lyrically about).
