I know. Having time off work does crazy things to people.

Eh I don't like them myself but I thought I'd throw that out and see what everyone's reaction was.

I guess it got a chuckle so my job is done

I'd suggest Iced Earth, but after the way Schaffer totally botched the Something Wicked saga, I'm not so sure anymore.

What's wrong with Pharaoh? I haven't listened to them, so just asking.

Boring? I'll let Lucy fill you in on the more gritty details.

Boring indeed. Textbook power metal with no imagination whatsoever... Don't lose your time checking them out unless you're a die har PM fan and have listened to about everything else that's been released in the last 10 years.

Well, sure, they're still more enjoyable to listen to than DragonForce but, then, who isn't?

Try Jag Panzer-Ample Destruction and Riot-Thundersteel;both kick Maiden's ass. And yeah, Omen's first couple of albums are also very good.

They sure can't compete against Maiden's classics.

Well, let's just say that i don't agree with you, which hopefully doesn't make me gay.

btw, here's another great underrated album that can easily compete imo with any Maiden classic: Fates Warning-The Spectre Within. This one is very consistent all the way through, unlike Powerslave, for instance.

Could be with a better production and singer.
Kind of a Maiden copycat btw, the american Der Kaiser at this point which is not a compliment.

Once again, i totally disagree with you. John Arch is one of the main elements that made early FW sound so great and original, and with another singer alot of that uniqueness would be lost.
As for the production, i think it's perfect, and better than the "too polished for my taste" production Maiden had on too many of their albums.

There're few albums that can compete with early Maiden, and not being a famous band as Judas or early Saxon, but one albumI really think it's in the same leage, also from NWOBHM is...
Angel Witch - Angel Witch...

Yeah, it's a classic :)

Angel Witch is definitely a classic album, and can compete with the best Maiden.

I actually don't know any bands that play similar to the recent Maiden.

It's not that nobody can, it's just that nobody wants....

And, that's stating the obvious but Manowar were awesome before they released two lousy albums.

Recent Maiden beats the shit out of recent Manowar... Not that it takes much to do it.

Stating the obvious since recent Manowar is 80% pure shite.
