This is an awesome album, though it's not really "gothic" (to me gothic is London After Midnight, Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, etc)... they are one of the forebears of what is know as death rock emerging from the L.A. underground in the late '70s - early '80s. The post - Punk / Romantics comparison is very apt.
It's good to see this here, the influences of Bowie and Jim Morrison are clear, though I would add Alice Cooper and T-Rex into the mix.

Good score; it's a good album, but not on the same level as Only Theater Of pain.

I am probably one of the few here that appreciates this genre.

If you like this, check out Cinema Strange, Deadchovsky or Scarlet's Remains.

Appreciate the differences between Death Rock and Gothic, but since this is hardly a regular genre for MR didn't want to get people confusing it with Death n'Roll. I do want to get into Bauhaus et al more; that style of 'Gothic' vocals is great in the right mood, and of course I like The Doors and Bowie. Never been that into T-Rex and Alice Cooper's discography is awaiting my prolonged perusal, but from the little I've heard I would agree.

I'll note those names and give them a listen. Cheers for the response! It was a pretty leftfield topic for review, but I got it as a promo from SoM, who don't often go far from Metal(- related) genres.

Have you heard Only Theater of Pain?
It's the classic CD album, and more indicative of the Bowie / T-rex / Alice influence.
Rozz' vox are more of a croon here (Catastrophe) than on OToP, hence the inevitable Jim Morrison comparison (I am a big Doors fan, too, they were one of a kind)
Those bands are more modern-day, but well worth a listen.
Also of note are The Vanishing.
For old school Death Rock / Batcave, check out the self-titled Voodoo Church (good luck, finding it though. If you know how to send mp3's via internet, I'll be glad to send you a couple of samples), Rudimentary Peni, Ausgang, UK Decay, Sex Gang Children, early The Damned, Southern Death Cult, TSOL (some), Phantom Limb...
There are more, but that is a good starting point.
If you dig EBM, check out Asphyxia or Violet Stigmata.

I'll try and get hold of OToP, cheers. As for the others, all I've heard are Rudimentary P (a couple of songs) and The Damned, who are great. Will let you know if I need any help hunting the others down...

I love Phantasmagoria by The Damned. I forgot about that album actually until seeing their name in this thread.

Yeah, man, that's a good album; one of their better ones.
Their discography can be a bit hit and miss.
