Judas Priests debut album, is it a hit or a miss?

I for one think it is a hit, and maybe even a classic. I love this album, every song rocks. It has that awesome 70s rock groove and even contains some stuff that Priest would eventually become.

Thoughts?

Hit, for what it represents, but I usually don't listen to it...

I listened to it last night and again tonight. Definitely worthy of having the name Judas Priest on the front.

Definitely a hit. A very underrated album sure it's not metal but it's nice pure prog rock at its finest.

Hit.
It doesn't much like Judas Priest but it still an entertaining and interesting album.
But, as far as surprising firs albums go, Scorpion's Lonesomecrow is waaaaay better. :dio:

Judas Priest is my favorite band and while Rocka Rolla has a couple of cool moments I just can't seem to get into that album. I always think of Sad Wings of Destiny as their real debut.

Sad to say, but Miss.

Mother fuckin' hit! Judas Priest's 70's albums are all excellent in my opinion, while Rocka Rolla is the worst of them, it still rules. And I dont know that Loneseome Crow is better, but it is definately an awesome album.

We should however leave the "best scorpions album" debate for another day. ps. my vote goes for Taken by Force or In Trance.

I like it, but it does suffer from pandering a little too much to what was popular at the time (moody, slow, sparce songs)

And that's a bad thing? How many songs did Black Sabbath have like that that are totally awesome. Sad Wings of Destiny has slow songs on it too, it doesnt mean the songs are bad or not as good as fast ones, it actually is harder to write a slow song, the song writing has to be excellent or you get stuff like the first Tad Morose album.

you're reading into what i'm saying. I'm saying it was too much like other popular hard rock acts at the time. I don't know how you read that as "slow songs suck"

Well you used the word "suffer" which would tend to indicate that you thought it was a bad thing. Either way my apologies for misinterpreting your words.

Definitely hit. It has a very special flavour for me, the perfume of 70s, a little blues aroma, great stuff.
