Holy Shit. I can't believe it took me so long to discover this band. Awesome fuckin old school power thrashin madness. Their name describes the music perfectly. God, this is what Hamemrfall would sound like if: (1) they didnt have fruity guitars, and (2) Jocaim Cans was tough.

Seriously, "Master of Disguise" has got to be one of the greatest heavy metal albums of all time from one of the all time unsung heroes of heavy metal. These guys were from LA and my guess is got the same treatment as Agent Steel, meaning that they were too heavy for the glam fans, and not heavy enough for thrash metal fans....which in and of itself is ridiculous because both Savage Grace and Agent Steel are heavy fuckin power metal. God this band rules.

Any fans?? If you havent heard of them check their shit out on Youtube. Really fantastic energetic heavy metal.

I have Graceful Inheritance, its pretty good, but I like the Savage Grace stuff better. And I have to disagree about this band being second rate. But that's just an opinion. They truly are an unknown gem.

Yet, second rate, they are... Not that there's anything wrong with it.

What are you reasons for claiming they are second rate?

My appreciation of their music, the lack of recognition they got, the simple fact that there are many better bands playing almost exactly the same genre.

They still are a nice little band though... Not essential but still pretty solid and worth checking but the way you talked about it was like finding a new planet in the solar system which is nonsense.

But, like I said, I like to see younger metalheads caring enough about their so that they dig semi-obscure formations and care about it. It's a breath of fresh air compared to those who just play what's hot and new.

So its a mixture of mostly subjective and a little objective criterion. Two of the reasons you gave are exactly the same, so essentially your basing your conclusion on two things, your own personal opinion, and how much success (commercial?) they had.

In other words this is an opinion, which is totally fine and I respect it, but my opinion is that they are a first rate band that like many other first rate bands (Satan, Holy Terror, Agent Steel, Paradox, etc., etc.,) never received the attention they were due.

So agree to disagree. Not attacking your opinion, just trying to qualify mine.

And if you are indeed Stefan, then can you please send me that Blaspheme album album again that you sent me a few years ago?

Stefan, TIE or whatever he is calling himself nowadays is actually quite right; even back in the day they were considered "also-rans".... the only thing I really remember about them is the fact that their album covers always featured some nasty looking skag on them. I guess it was supposed to be sexy...
Man, there is no shortage of good looking women in LA, could'nt these guys find anything better than that to model for them?

Still it is very nice to see you youngster digging up the old relics; lot's of good stuff from that era.

I don't really care how they were viewed by their contemporaries, because to be honest there's only 5 heavy metal bands from that era in California that I think were truly special, the others were just not that good in my opinion. Holy Terror, Savage Grace, Agent Steel, Heathen, and Anvil Chorus. The really well known bands are not that great. Metallica has always been mediocre in my opinion, same with Megadeth, Slayer was good but not super special, Testament and Exodus only have one good album, and then every other bay area thrash metal band was just standard fare. The five I listed had some sort of special energy that the others lacked. This is just an opinion of course, but I really don't think you can base the quality of a band on how they are viewed by the fickle masses. Look at how popular Anthrax is....and they have sucked for about 90% of their career. So despite what other people think...I believe that Savage Grace is a magnificent band that never got what they deserved.
