Not sure if they're overrated or not. But, I do like some songs from them. That's about it. Never picked an album by these guys.

Thanks for the rant, but they were fantastic in the eighties and that's the main thing you need to remember about them. How are you exposed to them nowadays anyway? Radio or MTV? Psshh.

Well, for anyone who has ever read American Psycho, Bono is depicted as being the most evil being to ever live. That alone got my respect up for it because it was just hilarious.

Bono is to self-righteous douchebag what WWII was to a slight disagreement.

I prefer the first epic, bombastic U2 of songs like "Sunday bloody sunday" or "new year's day" or "40" than actual (well, last 20 years) U2. Overrated, yes, but hate... there're a great bunch of shitty bands more deserving hate than U2
Totally. I actually really enjoy some of their songs. But just like any band, they also have crappy ones.

Most of my favorite bands don't have any crappy songs.

I love how only people that listen to metal listen to whole albums and not just singles.

Excluding the little goth girls that only bought "Amaranth" and ignored the full album...

First of all, U2 does suck.

Second of all, any good songs they have from the 80's were because they ripped off Big Country and the Skids who created that whole "Big Music" genre in the 80's.

I'm going to mention this again, but if you think they were even okay in the 80's check out Big Country. They are one of my favorite bands ever, which is totally odd because they aren't a metal band.

First U2 album : 1980

First skids album: 1976

your argument is akin to suggesting blackmore's night didn't start until recently so ritchie ripped off metallica.

what a buffoon. Would you like me to go get the press release (i have a copy) from "the crossing" to "prove" he started that sound in 1976 when he was in the skids?

Your post as misinfored as it is, also neglects to mention that big country released their first single in 1981, which charted pretty highly in england, which is much much closer to the release of U2's first album.

A band might have copied their sound off another band? Goodness gracious. Thanks heavens that U2 were capable of doing something with it and have released the string of interesting and diverse albums that they have, whilst Big Country are... doing less well.

If we speak about singles, first U2 single was in 1979...
