I never understood all the love for Burnt Offerings. Other then the title track and Dante's Inferno, pretty forgettable IMO. I feel that their sound and maturity was fully realized in later releases.

What?! Brainwashed and Last December are among their best songs.

I'll have to listen to Brianwashed again, as I don't recall it all that well. Last December really didn't strike me as anything special. My loss I suppose.

Now that I've listened to the two, though casually just once, the impression I get is that Something Wicked.... is easier to get into as it has some catchy numbers. Night Of The Stormrider is more technical and unconventional and will need a few more listens than SWTWC. I liked what I listened to and now Iced Earth is definitely one band whose discography I would like to see increase in my collection.

1. Something Wicked
2. Horror Show
3. Dark Saga
4. Days Of Purgatory
5. Burnt Offerings
6. Crucible Of Man
7. Framing Armageddon
8. Glorious Burden.

I don't even bother with the original versions of S/T and Stormrider. There's some great tracks, but the Purgatory/Barlow versions are superior.

If we got a Barlow versions of FA, I'd probably move it up the list some.

Definitely agree with the positions of 1 and 2. Also worth checking out is Tribute to the Gods.

WHAT? Stormrider is the BEST Iced Earth album and John Greely's vocals are magnificent on the record, Iced Earth is not Matt Barlow you know?

Yeah, it's weird. My favorite Iced Earth album (Stormrider) doesn't even have my favorite Iced Earth singer (Barlow). It works though, because Stormrider is awesome.

Stormrider is a great album yes it doesn't have Barlow but Greely does a great job anyway.

What ever Greely is. Barlow is better.

I think Mystical End is the only song on it that I don't have a Barlow version of. Everytime I hear it, its like someone farted.

Why would I listen to inferior versions of the same songs?

Barlow is fucking fantastic, but Greely is quality as well, the re-recording of some of the Stormrider songs are definantly not right for Barlowe and inferior.

I wasn't implying that I think he is overrated, just asking.

The first Iced Earth song I heard was The Hunter which had Matt Barlow on vocals. I didn't find anything great about it and it sounded like he was yawning and singing. But, then I listened to Something Wicked and liked his vocals. I like both Greely and Barlow. Pity though that Greely didn't or maybe couldn't do more albums.

I suppose Bruce Dickinson isn't Iron Maiden either. He is however the voice of Iron Maiden.

Well, one of them. Paul Di'Anno deserve this title too.
