I would also say that they haven't really made any melodeath classics, though...very solid band, but I wouldn't give anything I've heard from them above an 85 or so.

While I agree, and I know this puts me at odds with most people in this topic, there are very, VERY few melodeath albums I'd rate above a 75 or so. Which to me puts all of DT's ahead of the pack in general.

the only melodeath album i'd rate in the high 80s or 90s is Arsis's A Celebration of Guilt. maybe Slaughter of the Soul and A Predator's Portrait too, but probably not.

I'd reckon that Whoracle and Jester Race are melodeath classics, all the songs on those albums are killer. Also these days I'm listening heavily to Skyfire's Spectral. Though I'm probably a bit biased since melodeath is probably my favourite metal genre.

To follow up what I just said about not being a big fan in general... I'd rate all of Skyfire's discography in the 90's.

Here's a couple of suggestions:

Carcass - Heartwork
Dark Tranquillity - Haven. The Gallery, Character
Hypocrisy - Virus
At The Gates - Slaughter of the Soul
Darkane - Rusted Angel, Expanding senses
Zonaria - Infamy and the breed
Arch Enemy - Wages of Sin
Scar Symmetry - Holographic universe

as for your In Flames question I suggest Clayman
a perfect mixture of old In Flames style with harsher tones and extremely catchy.

Agree with the above, except that Burning Bridges superior to Wages.

A newer release making a 'classic' album, must be a pretty good album eh?

Slaughter of the soul will always make the list.

SotS is probably one of the most brutal melodeath albums, the bridge between the old school and pure melodeath.

Have you heard the cover of Captor of Sin that alone is living proof they are better then most bands of their time.
Hopefully a new Record eh?

That song is sick, one of their most memorable IMO. Though I wouldn't hold my breath for a record. Aren't most of them in The Haunted?

And you've actually heard Whoracle and The Jester Race?

No. I've only been a fan of In Flames for 8 years now and never listened to any of their older albums.

Of course I have. I own the albums. I just can't spin TJR indefinitely like everyone else who seems to be stuck on it and all the other gimme MDM classics and can't accept anything beyond that.

Their old stuff was far from metalcore. They had some really great acoustic parts in those songs too.

My bad. I was trying to communicate that I don't understand what point you were trying to make with that statement, since it really doesn't have anything to do with what you quoted.

Also, metalcore is still the most popular/mainstream metal genre right now.
