from Natural Born Chaos to Stabbing the Drama they took about 75% of what makes them good and got rid of it.

I am a MDM fanatic.

If you like MDM, you should like the following:

Arsis, All Shall Perish, The Black Dahlia Murder, The Bereaved, Cipher System, Deadlock, Detonation, Disarmonia Mundi ( Has Strid from Soilwork, try Mindtricks the albums ) Dimension Zero, The Duskfall ( Major favorite of mine, any of their albums are great. Start with Frailty or Source ) Eluvetie, Eventide, Eurcharist, Fragments of Unbecoming, Hypocrisy, Insomnium, Mors Principium Est ( Awesome band ) Neaera ( More metalcorish, but awesome, awesome band. ), Nightrage, Noumena, This Ending, Zonaria.

I have been a huge MDM fan for awhile now, and I've got quite a collection. I tried to avoid mentioning what already has been, and I know I didn't lay out any CD's for you... But I enjoy all these bands a lot, and if you love MDM, most of these guys should be right up your alley.

As far as In Flames. Get all of their albums. I have been a huge fan for about 10 years now, and the only one that I really don't care for is Soundtrack. Everything else is gold.

Soundtrack is shit and RTR is boring if I remember, but I haven't given it a good listen in a while. The singles from A Sense of Purpose didn't impress me, though I enjoyed Come Clarity, so I'm still going to check it out.

And speaking of boring I just finished hearing the eponymous Paradise Lost album half an hour ago.

Interesting that you list All Shall Perish who went from the deathcore vein to their more melodic stint which is by far their best work.
I would recommend Mors Principium est they are a newer version of the more electronic oriented Melodeath.
Check them out

I suppose it's a matter of taste. I love IF to death, and the only album I really ever avoid is Soundtrack. I really like everything else they've done, and R2R is probably my favorite album of theirs, honestly.

Yeah, All Shall Perish did the whole deathcore thing but they're a bit more melodic now, I threw them in there just thinking the guy might like them.

In my opinion, Trigger was the only good thing about Reroute... Not sure if I'd still like it, but it was one of the first songs I heard that sort of got me into metal. Even then I didn't really like the rest of the album however.

I was REALLY into Colony for a while, but nowadays I find most of it boring. Embody the Invisible and Beyond Space '99 are good though. In retrospect, Whoracle was better in general, and Jester Race was probably their best. Never could get into Lunar Strain. I hated Stanne's vocals on that one, I've always thought he should stick to DT-style deeper ones.

Speaking of Michael Stanne, I'd say Dark Tranquillity is and has always been infinitely better than In Flames.

I agree man I don't see how the hell In flames became more popular then DT aside from the fact their music became more accessible after Colony . Yes the rumors are true about his infamous whiny Jonathan Davis improv vocals. Dark tranquillity have become more and more diverse as a band and Fiction is proof that they aren't stopping and dying like In flames

The newest one is a step down but not by much. The Absence was overhyped for a while and ultimately not worth checking out.

DT are one of those rare bands who don't know how to make a shit album.

I would also say that they haven't really made any melodeath classics, though...very solid band, but I wouldn't give anything I've heard from them above an 85 or so.

Not so, Skydancer, Of Chaos and Eternal Night and The Gallery are classic melodeath.

i agree about those albums very different for their time, but I would also say Character is a worthy followup to all of those albums. That album has not one filler song at all
