so i was reading metro this morning and fucking U2 were on the cover. then i turned on the news at 8 and they're on the fucking news too. apparently they've crapped out another album.

i haven't heard any U2 song aside from the ones with videos, and i probably haven't seen half of them, but everything i've heard from them i hated. seriously, what a criminally overrated band. i seriously struggle to imagine why people go so apeshit over this decidedly average-to-poor band with a fucking guitarrist who calls himself "the edge" (wow, how cool..... if you're 12) and that asshole Bono as a singer. seriously, fucking Bono, will you SHUT THE FUCK UP? fucking celebrities pretending they give a fuck. fuck you, Bono. in the ear.

seriously. i hate U2 and hope they all die from some bovine virus they catch because of all the sex they have with farm animals, like some anal variant of kreutzfeld-jacobs or something.

I like U2, unashamedly. Epic Rock that many a Metal band can't touch for grandiosity. So Bono's a celebrity, big shitting deal.

I think U2 is just fine. I actually enjoy several of their older songs, and even though I think they should quit making music now as I think they've accomplished what they've needed to as a band, they're a talented bunch.

U2 should have called it quits after 1997's Pop.
That's when they stopped evolving and began trying to regain their old fame and sound which was a total miss.
Other than that, I think U2 had excellent singles on quite poor albums.
Overrated indeed.

I prefer the first epic, bombastic U2 of songs like "Sunday bloody sunday" or "new year's day" or "40" than actual (well, last 20 years) U2. Overrated, yes, but hate... there're a great bunch of shitty bands more deserving hate than U2

And I prefer the first period too... But I respect a bunch of guys wanting to re-invent themselves even though what they evolved into ain't my cuppa...
But, the last three albums, "80s U2 goes to the Bank/MTV", it's just sad...

Of course they are overrated; like pretty much every band that has ever sold millions of records.

They have some good songs, some very good songs, and some crap songs.

Haha, Frigid. I always thought that was one of the most accurate representations of their sound. Spot on.

Although I do quite like The Joshua Tree. It's the forced epic-ness I'm not a fan of. Blind Guardian are just on the right side of the line, for instance. Rhapsody and bands of that ilk go way over it.

As Rio said... A couple of really good songs, other than that they pretty much suck..

I'm not a fan of their music in the least, but if listening to Bono be a pretentious asshole is the price of all the actually good stuff he does, it's a price I'm willing to pay.

I'm not a fan, but at least they're better than the legions of talentless indie/alternative rock/emo bands that are polluting the airwaves these days. If the worst rock music on the radio were on average U2 level of quality, it would be a rather big step forward for modern rock.
