Dammit I was gonna review this as a tryout.

It's not a great album, but I still think the low scores on account of "being generic and repetitive" are too harsh, given that other bands with the exact same problem get higher scores, only because the reviewer likes the genre more.

Don't you love genre-bias? Seriously, I think their "metalcore" tag hinders listeners. It's like as soon as someone sees 'core somewhere, it sucks automatically. Not bashing Khelek or anyone here, just saying that scoring low on account of "generism" and genre is nothing more than elitism in disguise. It's like it's become cool to hate metalcore for being metalcore.

As for the album, it's not mindblowing but I like it more than Constitution, so it's about 75 for me.

thats because most metal reviewers excluding some on this site (metal-archives) in particular are full of egomaniacal faggots who think their sense of wit and vocabulary make up for the fact they are closed-minded faggots.

I've read that over and over again, but it still doesn't make sense.

God Forbid have some good songs, but for me they just aren't very good. No bite to them, unrefined songwriting. Decent guitarists, though.

I completely agree that not listening to something or giving it a low score on account of the genre tag is pretty lame. I will never score something lower or not give it my full attention simply because it is in a certain category. A lot of people say that Coheed and Cambria are emo, which makes many fans of hard rock/metal turn away and even insult them without even listening to an album. Ridiculous. That being said, I didn't give this album a low score because I have anything against metalcore, I gave it a low score because it just isn't that good. God Forbid can do FAR better and I think they know it.

I think it's cool that you didn't get flustered about what I said. So many people get frustrated over little things. I was kind of worried it would when I hit send. For the record, I totally agree with you for Coheed. Love that band. I personally find Earthsblood to be GF's best so far but you know, to each own and stuff.

So cheers and respect! :dio:

its impossible to be completely unbiased. For instance, i bet you have some sort of "bias" against boy bands. Metalcore certainly has made it hard NOT to hold some sort of grudge against it. After all it was a genre that started out as honest as any, but exploded with popularity which brought in thousands of copy cats and plenty of annoying fans.

Bands like as i lay dying, early all that remains and killswitch engage are still inspired listens for me, but god forbid is just boring.

You have a point, there. My personal main bias would probably be for "kvlt" black metal. I just can't get into it. I love the ideology and the attitude but the music just doesn't do anything for me.

But see, that's why I came out of lurking here. Unlike some other places (*cough*Blabbermouth*cough*) this place doesn't have immature retards for posters. :)

Whatever, I really liked this album. Gets an 85 from me. You call this album repetitive? Try listening to Amon Amarth. Oddly enough their new album got a 95.

Loved Gone Forever, hated Constitution of Treason. I will check this out, but it sounds more like the latter.

It's been a while since I heard Constitution of Treason, though I remember liking it I heard it when I didn't listen to that many albums, so my opinion might change. TBH though I'm probably not going to bother to check this out.

And btw, +1 to the Coheed and Cambria comment, Good Apollo IV is a killer album and everyone should hear the sheer awesomness that is Welcome Home.

i guess they are just one of those bands that make one semi-good album you know the one were you get it and it stays in your cd case after you listen to it twice. Then they just keep releasing filler/half-motivated material after.
Ill still check it out

This happened to me with Lamb of God's Sacrament.

I actually liked Sacrament better than Wrath. Better songs.

I read an interview Metal Hammer did with them about this release, as usual they till the lines of self-promotion with typical statements "its the heaviest we've ever done", "we wanted to go in a different direction".
But they also made the admission they were apart of the whole metalcore uprising and did so until it became "uncool".
Interesting admission I thought..

For one thing Redneck destroys the new single they put out.

I'm not saying that Sacrament is shit, just that there's just so much better stuff to listen to. Like Deathspell Omega.

By that logic you should abandon Deathspell Omega for Grisey and Meshuggah for Steve Reich.
