Sweet I thought I was the only one that didn't like Meshugga. Mastodon is pretty lame, too.

MeshuggaH (yeah, that's how your supposed to write it) is a terrific band. One of those who make metal evolve as an artform.

If you're looking for catchiness or whatever, then Meshuggah isn't for you. However, from a technical compositional point of view, what Meshuggah are doing rhythmically is far more complex than what most contemporary composers are able to do. I don't know this for a fact, because I'm not a composer and I don't know wtf they're doing, but my old composition teacher (who is btw the Athena bassist too) was raving about them (along with Spiral Architect, Grisey, Don Caballero and Tool).

the new Mastodon was epically awesome. Much better than Blood Mountain, but I'm not sure if its on par with Leviathan yet. More listens shall tell me that.

Goes to show you how much I care about the band.

I'll keep that in mind.

New Yeah Yeah Yeahs leaked. Nice album, definitely different from their previous stuff.

Funny, I thought they'd split up for some reason. Different how?

Less trashy, less rocky. Karen O's harsher vocals are completely gone. The album plays around with electronic stylings, and its much more mellowed out than Fever To Tell or the Is Is EP.

Have now given Maranatha a few listens and have a bit of a mixed opinion. I do think its a pretty decent album, but it doesn't have the same "togetherness", flow, and dark atmosphere that Salvation had. I'm also convinced that Arioch could have done away with White Stone entirely. Some songs would have also been better had they been shorter, for example Blessed Curse that ended up being much too long without doing much of anything. I really liked the first half of the song though. The album also seems to improve as it gets closer to the end. The last three songs plus Sword of Faith are probably my favourites on the album, but still there are those mediocre moments that weren't there on Salvation. Ah well.

It seems Meshuggah is one of those bands everyone has strong opinions about, whether for or against, but very little middle ground in argumentation. As is usually the case with extraordinary music, methinks.

As far as the middle ground goes, though, I don't give a flying fuck about them.

I don't know if ayone has mentioned it but Gamma Ray is apparently coming out with something later this year. Kamelot is also going to release a new album eventually. And Heavenly said that their next studio album will be available sometime after the summer.

I'm so excited about this. I don't know how I feel about it getting heavier, though.

yeah that struck me as kind of odd, since being their heaviest album would go against their trend of getting softer with each album
