Ok, just three from the top of my head:

- Black Sabbath's Black Sabbath, rain, thunder and bell, awesome! :dio:
- Judas Priest's Screaming for Vengeance, The Hellion baby! :dio:
- Metallica's Ride the Lightning, love the sweet music before the ultraviolence (that's how we took it back then) kicks in. :dio:

All good, none as epic.

Who the fuck cares about epic, who the fuck says only epic intros are good? C'mon Goatie, now you're just not making sense and let your own judgment interfere with the fact that people can have different tastes than yours...
I'd take those three intros over any epic intro anytime!

It's Emperor, the very last word in epic Black Metal! I never said that only epic intros are good...

You said it was the best intro ever though.

A mon avis, it is.

Name a better one.

OMG I have to interject....

That wretched intro ruins Anthems for me. The beginning clean guitar stuff is cool, but when those despicable synthed trumpets come in I just cringe on Emperor's behalf. THey sound so fucking tacky.

The rest of the album is awesome, though.

Damn straight. I don't want to live on a planet on which Vertebrae is considered to be better than Traced in Air

I always thought the intro was really shitty and just took too long to get to the point, but the transition from the intro into Ye Entrancemperium is really awesome.

[Edit] My memory deceived me. It's not really shitty, but I stand by my statement that it takes too long. It's really cool in the beginning with the acoustic parts, but it meanders for too long.

That intro is one of the best I've ever heard. What's wrong with the trumpets?

They sound awful and tacky and really fake.

Just like all of Ihsahn's classical casio wankery. But I actually like the intro, though indeed it would have been better half as long.

So check out this band, Rimfrost. Lame name but metalsucks.net labeled it a mix of keep of kalessin and enslaved/nachtmystium.

Gay name indeed, but the description sounds really promising. Checking right now.

I've got A Frozen World Unknown, it's somewhat derivative but solid nonetheless.

Enslaved never amazing? Vikingligr Veldi is one of the best black metal albums. Period.

Yes it's true... And every album from it to Isa are incredible... but Ruun & Vertebrae are solid, great albums, but not amazing ones.

Well.... Have you guys considered that RIM means something completely different in Swedish/Norwegian?

rim= the white frozen powder-like glimmering stuff that covers the grass when it's been a frosty night

I'm more fund of the earlier stuff too. Vertebrae is good, they're talented and seasoned veterans of the scene, but the magic of the vikings is gone.

When it comes to black metal overall I'd say Scandinavia (especially Norway and Finland). Though there are still some great bands coming out of Norway these days, I don't think they are currently the home to the best scene. There are also tons of great bands I enjoy coming out of the Ukraine and Russia, as well as France.

However, I think Québec's scene is probably producing some of the best bands out there today, there are many great acts coming out of there the last few years. I voted Scandinavia in the poll, though, as there was no option for Canada.
