Is there really a quantifiable difference between "deathcore" and death metal? I dun think so.

Of course. Obituary/Morbid Angel/Bloodbath/Bolt Thrower v. random deathcore band?

Death Metal vs Waking the Cadaver, Job for a Cowboy who is now straight-up modern death metal, Impending Doom, Winds of Plague blackened/symphonic Deathcore, Suicide Silence, Arsonists Gets All The Girls more hardcore than death band ... ect... but has nothing on regular Death Metal.

Becoming The Archetype - Terminate Damnation (2005)
Becoming the Archetype - The Physics of Fire (2007)
Becoming the Archetype - Dichotomy (2008)

Three prog death gems. More prog than pure death. Lots of piano, organ, jazz sounding and unconventional riffing. The first album was pure chaos. A wall of sound. Second album, they sort of started to sound like Opeth or SYL because of the clean vocals. Didn't diminish from the sound. Clean Vocals went away when the guitarist left. The latest one was produced by Devin Townsend. They seem to be more Melodic Death influenced on this one. Some Maiden inspired melodies here too. I would had voted for Dichotomy as top 10 Prog album of 2008 but i wasn't able to properly listen to it at the time. Great band.

Having listened to Dichotomy, I thought it blew.

Oh and Silencer is interesting and deserves a review. But what the fuck do you rate it? At times you're listening to it and love, other times hate it and other times are just confused by it. Having listened to it several times, it is a diametrically different listen every time I hear it.

Surprised Silencer-Death Pierce Me hasn't been done. Not entirely sure if I'll do it, but if this gets enough of a good response....

Do it, that album is fucking insane.

I know what you mean, hence the reason I wasn't sure about doing it. Guess how effective the album is depends on how much you're prepared to buy into the story behind them.

@Rio: Need more Misery Index. :dio:

He seems to be the only new reviewer without his own thread. No problem though and neither a need for it.

Oooh I didn't realise something was in here addressed to me :omfg:

Don't really listen to Misery Index much at all, maybe I ought to. I'm going to try and do some BM for this week.

I was going to do the new Buckethead this week but I don't really have any strong feelings on it... I've been meaning to do an archive of My Dying Bride- Like Gods of the Sun, or Legend- From the Fjords, maybe... any opnions?

More MDB is always good... funny you mention Buckethead, Enter The Chicken's been on my to-do list for a while.

Anything by Anubis Gate. New album is coming out in a few weeks so it's a perfect excuse.

Hm, I was just looking at that earlier... is possible.

As y'all may have noticed, Mintrude seems to have vanished, so am falling even further behind on catching up on this thread. But I haven't given up yet!
