Well said.

I think that's it coupled with what HT said. Try listening to these bands one after the other and you'll get the general idea.

Speed metal - Dragonforce
Thrash metal- Slayer
Power Metal - Sacred Steel (If you can tolerate the vocals).

anyway there is no speed metal scene now and if there was ever one it would have just been nwobhm and there would have been no seperation of the 2

Wrong again. Please, do some research and stop being silly.

Basically, a lot of thrash bands were speed metal back then and so were a lot of power metal bands such as Helloween or Rage...

A "scene" doesn't mean "people who only listen to one genre."

Also the starting of the big german power bands was considered speed.
Albums as Rage "Reign Of Fear", Runnig wild Gates To Purgatory and Branded & Exiled, Helloween Walls of Jericho, or Grave Heavy Metal Breakdown, everybody (at least here in Spain) in the radios and magazines said it was Speed Metal.

And in spanish scene, Muro was considered in that time speed, between Baron Rojo, Obus, Panzer or Angeles del infierno Heavy metal and Legion or Fuck off Thrash metal.
