I've always really liked Hey Jude, though.

Hey Jude is a Nazi anthem.

really?... why is it nazi anthem?

Oh, man, it was a joke. "Hey! Jude!" What's Jew in German? I'll see myself out.

I can't believe that there are so many Zep haters when these same people like the Beatles. Personally, I only like a few Zeppelin songs (Kashmir, Stairway, Immigrant Song) and that's just because of Page, since I fucking hate Plant's vocals.

But Jesus, the Beatles are just a pop band at the end of the day. They were important because before them all you could listen to were those fucking crooners, so when they came out, the Beatles were a revelation. But now there are so many better bands to listen to that they are no longer relevant.

And in the 60s there was also Jimi Hendrix, who could fucking play, and even though his songs are too soft for my tastes, the likes of All Along the Watchtower and Machine Gun are still better than any Beatles song I've ever heard.

Bullshit, each paragraph.

All Along The Watchtower's a Bob Dylan song, FYI.

Do you really wanna point out everything that's wrong about Soul Society's post? That a lot in so few lines...

Yeah, well, I was going to mention Chuck Berry, Bill Haley and all but couldn't be bothered. Dylan deserves more props around here.

Listening to The Beatles is fun but I wouldn't exactly call it high art. I have a tremendous amount of respect for their influence, though, enough so that I definitely wouldn't call them outdated or anything like that.

I don't listen to Led Zeppelin anymore but they were pretty damn good.

You try writing hundreds of instantly recognizable, immensely catchy and superbly arranged songs. It's an argument I usually hate, but in this case, I'm fine if you don't like them, but don't ignore their quality or musical value.

And Gene Vincent (just an example). This man was NOT a crooner and had a surpising firepower. There are also a bunch of bluesmen (Howlin' Wolf comes to mind) that greatly deserve a mention here.

Well... I guess it was just an idiotic post by someone who, obviously, lacks the cultural references to properly comment on rock history. No offense Soul Society but your post was kinda full of shit.

Good man.

You should try his 1968's psychedelic blues album. The man himself rejected it and refused that it was released. Yet, it's an awesome and furious display of his talent. Sadly, it's only been edited in Japan a few years back and is no longer available but I might be able to help you if you're curious to hear it...

Here's the cover art:

OK yeah I forgot about All Along.... being Bob Dylan's originally, but whether you like it or not Beatles are pop, with some stuff having psychedelic lyrics, but that's it.

I mean, seriously you guys think that something like Penny Lane is musical genius? Please.

It all depends on how you interpret "genius". Quality can manifest itself in different forms, be it technique, production, complexity, or melody.

Not really true though, since if we take the example of Steve Vai, he has truckloads of technique, but does that make him a guitar genius? Compared to someone like Chuck Schuldiner? No fucking way.
