But I love how pointless it is. Not to mention the fact that Dawkins would even do the interview and be like 'yes i like carols but not rudolph or frosty because just like every other normal person, and don't forget I am normal, i'm tired of that overplayed rubbish.' And he would say rubbish because he is British.

He didn't even do the interview with them, is what gets me. It's just reporting what he said in another interview, probably throwaway.

Oh man I just assumed the Cocker guy was the one writing the article. It's still not as worthless as any American article on Britney Spears and her ilk.

I think it was taken from another article about a year ago, where he mentioned this along with how he didn't want to completely divorce England from its largely Christian heritage.

Despite his notoriety and highly opinionated personality, Dawkins really isn't that bad a guy in real life. He's an excellent scientist, and if you see him in discussion or debate (even when he's claarly losing), he's actually quite the gentleman. Dan Dennett, from what I've seen out of him, is in the same league.

Harris and Hitchens, on the other hand...

Dennett and Dawkins are both academics. Harris and Hitchens are both journalists. Coincidence?

Harris has a degree in philosophy.

Yes, but he's still technically an author/journalist rather than an academic, since he doesn't actually work in academia the way Dawkins (a scientist) and Dennett (a scientific philosopher) do.

Somewhat on the topic of religion, one of the things I got for Christmas was Christopher Reeve's book "Nothing Is Impossible." For those who don't know, Reeve struggled most of his life to figure out what he really believed in, until about two or three years before his death when he joined the Unitarian-Universalist church. I may not agree with him on his particular religion, but his experience (along with his other experiences during his paralysis) is actually pretty inspiring.

I try and have respect for people, but these 'I had a calamity and now believe in lizard-men' sorta books inspire nothing but wrath. If god exists, and it takes a near-fatal accident to make you accept that, how shallow a person are you?
