Going into my 10th year of loving Death Metal, I feel embarassed to ask this. But I know without having Vader means I don't have much of a collection. I just got The Art of War on LP. Any other suggestions???

You haven't heard death metal if you haven't heard Litany.

Yup, Litany is rather quintessential. I'd also suggest Revelations and Black to the Blind.

The Beast was my first and favourite album by them. Has some sweet Lovecraft-based songs in there and it's just a badass album.

I've always ignored Vader since the first time I heard them since I thought they were a dull version of Behemoth. I was wrong?

I find Vader a bit easier to digest. The last couple of years Behemoth's been the better band, though.

Litany, Black to the Blind, or Revelations. Just don't start with their newer stuff, no Beast or Impressions.

I think that is where I originally started. But I just checked out the first few tracks on Litany and its decent. Litany is a badass song.

I got Revelations and The Beast at the same time. I listened to The Beast first then put on Revelations and I haven't really given The Beast a proper listening to since. Impressions in Blood is not bad, it just has nothing on older Vader.

The Art of War is good, even though it sounds a little fake at times.

The Beast is good, it just isn't... Vadery. It's much more thrash than most of their stuff.

I've always been a big fan of De Profundus. Now that I think of it, I don't think I've actually heard Litany.

I'm getting an FYE (American music store) gift card for Christmas. I'll look for Litany as soon as I step into the store.

Good luck with that. Best Buy seems to have the best metal selection.

I don't think so... My local FYE has Massive Conspiracy Against All Life.

But that's just my local FYE.

The Art Of War EP has always been my favourite release by them, though Litany and Revelations are also great.

Hmm I could be wrong. My local FYE may just be small.

I'm often surprised by what I find at the FYE. Primordial's entire discography used for $5.00, for example.

Vader slays, man. I love these guys. I'd recommend Litany as suggested by many people above as a top album to get, and you can't really go wrong with anything after that. Just keep snagging albums, they're all good.

So I ordered Litany online with my gift card. It's at my house. Unfortuantely when it arrived I was and still am in New York. I guess the waiting just makes it sweeter...
