I'm sure this will be flooded by haters soon but I personally always enjoyed Trivium since Ember to Inferno. Ascendancy wasn't great, IMO but I really enjoyed The Crusade. Yes, they may be copycats of their inspirations at times but I still enjoy them. Besides, I've heard much closer Hetfield soundalikes than Heafy (i.e. Perzonal War or worse... Am I Blood).

As for Shogun... well it's ok but honestly, it didn't grab me like The Crusade did. It's a good album but outstanding it is not.

I went on youtube and listened to every song other than the title track. Nothing really made me wanted to listen to them play for 12 minutes.

It's not terrible, but it's just not very good. Some of the songs have cools parts, but they were very short lived. The vocals range from decent enough to the really annoying attempts at harsh vocals. Some decent guitar work but I only found a handful of riffs really getting by head banging.

I see what Pete means about the songs seeming very disjointed. Kirisute Gomen sounds like a Metallica rip off that morphs into a rather lame metalcore part, then into a more melodic chorus. Repeat. All in all I found that to be the most enjoyable and memorable song. Still not that great.

awesome album. i thought it kinda sucked at first despite some surprisingly cool parts, but now i think it's one of the best metal albums this year (i can only thing of Sahg and Protest the Hero as competitors off the top of my head). the production is beautiful, Heafy's vocals are awesome, the riffs kick tons of ass, there's some really great solos (although most of them are pretty typical "oh hay gotta have sum solos cause this is a metal song and METAL IS ABOUT SOLOS" but that doesn't bother me because pretty much all bands do that), and it's fucking catchy. the only thing i'd change is maybe cut out some of the songs in the second half, which, other than "Shogun", aren't as great as the ones in the first half.

Tp my surprise this is much less gay than their previous releases.. Still not very good at what they're doing IMO, but they've shown progress at least. Will check out their next release.

It drags in the 2nd half a little then ends really well. But on a whole an excellent metal record.

Mostly agree with noodles on this one, you all pretty much know my point of view if you've read the other Trivium related topics so I won't repeat and spare you all! :P

And suddenly everybody likes it somehow?

When I remember the other thread...

For me it's finally not so rememberable like Ascendancy or Crusade. It's not bad, but not in my top 10 list of this year. Or maybe it's a long time since I've heard it last.

The people that listened and don't like it just seem to have ignored this thread.

Pretty much, they just stayed away (the haters). I enjoyed most of the album, but some of the songs didn't really seem to stick much. The first song needed to be fixed a bit, there were two parts I really didn't like at first but they are something I can deal with (or edit myself). It's not my favorite band, but it is keeping a place on my computer at least. One thing they had going for them was that their album art was kinda cool on the last two albums, but it looks like a last minute Photoshop now.

I don't run around standing up for them, I avoid "tis band B ghey" conversations at all costs. One thing I did want to say, though, was how I think it's funny how some people will insult the band with shitty reasons. My personal favorite is that they say they can't understand what he is saying at parts, then they say they listen to some generic grindcore/ extreme death metal that basically just has screams and even worse drumming and guitar work(read: Anal Cunt). There are some very logical reasons why people do hate the band, so I'm not bashing haters at all. Just the Anal Cunt lovers.

Anal Cunt is good because it's hilarious, whereas Trivium take themselves too seriously sometimes.

After listening to this album a few more times I've changed my mind. I actually really like it. A few filler songs but overall it has some good songs and is pretty fun for what it is. 79/100

If we're comparing old Dream Theater to everything that Trivium has ever conceived, then yeah.

As if you guys are comparing Trivium to Dream Theatre.

What have we come to?

The funny thing is that the historic meaning of the Trivium is very close to the truth. In the middle ages you had the seven artes liberales (the free arts), disciplines taught in schools, being grammatica, retorica, dialectica (the most important disciplines to scholars, the Trivium), arithmetica, geometria, astronomia, and musica (the Quadrivium).

Simply put, music was not part of the Trivium
