Why are you going for the passive ones? The standard HZ-combination is satisfying.. At least for me, but I highly recommend the active ones.

Because we're all getting the same level of pickups, so we want to keep it balanced... Plus I don't want to have to mess around with batteries and shit. What's the standard HZ combo?

Well... The H4 is the closest you'll get to the active ones which is much better IMO. Alexi Laiho uses them. You could try and combine it with the H4A... I think Wylde's Bullseye signature uses that combo..

Seymore Duncan and DiMarzio are other great passive pickups which is imo better than the passive EMG's

Thanks... Btw, if you had to recommend an active pickup, what would it be?

I'm very pleased with my EMG 81/85 combo... And by the way, do not install only one active pickup while the other one is passive... that will fuck up the electricity and voltage...

Thanks, i'll keep the tip in mind. I'm getting myself an Ibanez JEM7V with diMarzio Evolution and Breed pickups, that'll be fun... aesthetically it's totally un-metal, but it plays beatifully O.o

Of course it does... It's a JEM.. And DiMarzio is probably my favorite lead pickups.

I'm just worried about the sound... Is there a chance it might be too "light" for heavy metal? After all, Vai doesn't really play metal...

I've got an Engl fireball head and a randall speaker... Badass, crunchy, aggressive and loud. Holy shit I can't wait for the JEM.

Dimarzio superdistortion. Everything else sucks.

I think Dave Murray (Iron Maiden) relies heavily on the Super Distortion pick up. I think he has those in his older black & white Fender Strat that he played regularly up until about the Brave New World tour.

Actually, As long as it's the DiMarzio Super or Super II. I prefer the Super II's

install an inductor which will block DC voltages from getting to the pickup.

An inductor and a capacitor in series should block all voltage from going to a component (in this case the pickup)
