Been a while since my last post, but I bring you all metalheads some good news.

Theocracy - Mirror of Souls

Although I can't stand Theocracy's lyrics (just listen to the song Bethlehem and you'll understand me), can't deny that the music is awesome, even some blastbeats ala Dragonforce. Matt Smith now has some real band members and a much better production and the result is really good. My only complaint is that some melodies seem stolen from the past album. I still prefer the first album though, they should do a re-release, coz the drums were awful.

Suspyre - When Time Fades

This band develops further their progressive nature, and I've had a rough time getting into When Time Fades, so I can't tell you more for the moment. This album was released in September 30th, so I imagine some of you has already formed an opinion about this album, so what do you guys think?

The new Theocracy is excellent! :D

For those who haven't already spotted my full review, here it is:

I have the new Suspyre but haven't started spinning it yet. I've heard it's more progressive, which usually isn't my thing, but I'm still looking forward to hearing it.

Suspyre's first album was awesome. Does the new one have April in the Fall on it?

I just ordered the new Theocracy, and there is nothing wrong with the lyrics.

I was not familiar with Suspyre, but their myspace clips sound decent... I will have to check them out.

I agree. After having the experience with HB (full review is on MCDR for those who haven't heard of them), Theocracy's lyrics definitely shouldn't deter non-Christian metal fans from getting the CD.

I'm really looking forward to hearing the new Theocracy, and I do hope that Matt Smith has included his hip hop/country/death metal masterpiece on the album.

UPDATE:

I just received an email from The End - they've shipped Theocracy, so it's in stock. I reviewed it from a typical cardboard slip-sleeve promo (courtesy of the up'n'coming Ulterium Records), but I wanted the actual CD.
:)

... The Laser's Edge also has it now.

As a fan of the self-titled first album, I'll check out the new Theocracy when it comes out. In response to Clint's review for Mirror Of Souls, the fact that it has a proggy last song shouldn't be too surprising. The first album had a definite prog leaning (at least half of its songs were over 6 minutes!), and Dream Theater is one of Smith's biggest influences.

Well, don't underestimate the image-obsession of some metal fans.

The new Suspyre is amazing, If you like A Great Divide you will also like the new one. It´s prog metal at its best, these guys can be really big if they continue this way.

I've been listening to both these albums. The Suspyre is very good, even better than the previous one. The tasteful use of the saxophone is quite interesting and enjoyable.

The Theocracy is one of my albums of the year. Smith is an incredible composer and some of the melodies are some of the best and catchiest I've ever heard, eg. On Eagles Wings. Strangely enough I get a Metallica feel on some of the songs, particularly the 3rd track.

There's actually a popular church hymn called On Eagles' Wings. I wonder if Smith's song is a cover?
