Anyone notice Aquaria?
brilliant Brazilian power metal!
I think they deserve more attention.
Besides, X Japan is also my all-time favorite, anyone like it?

:dio: .... Although I do gotta say that Edguy is VERY close for me. IMO, I don't think any of Blind Guardian's albums can top "Hellfire Club". (one of my favourites of all time).

The Mandrake is fucking awesome as well though.

Never seemed to get into "Mandrake" for some reason. The style on that album is pretty similar to "HC", right? That's another album I'm gonna have to crank out rather soon.

Yeah, I would for sure have though that they would score much higher! The same goes for HammerFall, for that matter. :D

Check out Pharaoh from Mandrake, it's one of the greatest PM songs ever made IMO.

Aquria should definitely NOT be on that list, I will agree with you on X Japan though. They are still one of my all time favorites.

Yeah, If I remember correctly, "Pharaoh" was actually one of the songs I truly liked from that album along with "Tears Of A Mandrake".

Yeah those tracks are definitely the best 2 from the album. I heard it again yesterday and including the bonus tracks, there were only two tracks which were nothing special, one being Save Us Now.

That is one of the least power metal sounding band names ever.

They used to be a death metal band.

Makes sense. Don't think I've ever heard of a death band going power.

I don't know if my love for power metal is less than it used to be, but I don't really like any of those bands releases lately. Except Nightwish (Dark Passion Play is excellent), but I don't consider them to be a power metal band.

I used to love Blind Guardian and Edguy but they are both going in directions I'm not too crazy about.

Helloween had a few bright moments in the last couple of albums but they haven't really captured me since The Dark Ride.

I didn't care for Blood Religion by Gamma Ray at all, but Land of the Free pt.2 is pretty good. There's still hope there I guess.

Seven Seals is awesome, I wish Primal Fear would have kept that style. Their latest bored me to death.

And so on. I just haven't been impressed by any power metal releases lately. At least not the ones from the high profile bands who all seem to fail to deliver. My taste might be moving in a different direction though.

Hmm... didn't know Gamma Ray had an album by the name you first mentioned

But seriously the album you are refering to (Majestic) is downright awesome, IMO. Lots of killer material to be found. It shows a darker side of Gamma Ray and it's also a little less generic and "predictable". The sound is a bit more fresh, grandiose and bombastic. But also loaded with catchy melodies and riffs. Songwriting is very cool too.

I agree, it was a grower, but it is now one of my fav Gamma Ray albums.

My faves are "Powerplant", "No World Order" and "Majestic". I like how they are different from each other, but still it sounds like Gamma Ray. The new one simply can't match any of those IMO.

I agree. at least with Gamma Ray the Quality stays at a pretty high level. I got used to how Majestic seemed to flow together, and a I think land of the free II is also pretty good. I guess I have power plant at #1. Gamma keeps me at the 7 rating level and never really seem to dip into what i call a mediocre 6 or 6.5 area

But seriously the album you are refering to (Majestic) is downright awesome, IMO. Lots of filler material to be found. It shows a darker side of Gamma Ray and it's also a little less generic and "predictable". The sound is a bit more fresh, grandiose and bombastic. But also loaded with catchy melodies and riffs. Fixed.
