What are their good albums? I checked out Serenades and The Silent Enigma, they're awesome, especially Serenades. Do they have any more albums that are worth checking out, or is the rest the alternative crap that I've been hearing about?

If you can find the compilation CD that has Pentecost III and The Crestfallen EP's on it, I highly recommend it.

I only have The Silent Enigma, and I like it!

Well they have done a lot of alternative stuff but I wouldn't call it crap; "A Fine Day to Exit" is a really good album, like Porcupine Tree or Radiohead or Opeth on Damnation or something in that area.

Otherwise try something like Eternity, which is kind of an acquired taste- sort of proggy goth metal.

It's only their very early stuff that is doomdeathy (unless I am missing something?)

Everything they did until Judgment ranges from good to outstanding.
Everything post-Judgement ranges from average to weak.

I find Judgement to be their best. Never got into Alternative 4 all that much, the doomy albums I find boring, Eternity is a bit of a mixed bag. I quite like A Fine Day to Exit and A Natural Disaster, but they're altogether removed from metal.

You can't go wrong with any Anathema album, I believe. Excellent band, a shame they're fading from recognition.

I quite like their alternative albums. Their doom albums (besides Judgement -- if that can be called doom) are kind of boring.
