I think US elections are odd... A lot depends on how many voters show up right? Because if a candidate has a strong stance on some issue, if only a certain class of people showed up to vote (ie in relation to tax cuts) it wouldn't matter, would it?

Six(?) years ago we had blacks riot in Cincinnati because the cops shot a black assailant, thinking he was pulling a gun out on them. American culture isn't prone to active civic participation like Europe. It seems Europeans have protests much more, akin to France's riots against the government. Blacks are simply less conservative when it comes to demonstrating and are willing to get out and try to promote their interests. I'm proud of them for their civic attitude.

Too bad us white folks are trapped by the cultural hegemony which enables us to prevent our government from bulldozing us with their agendas. Thomas Jefferson supports them:

Dear V. We have non-whites in our country too. A few years ago, in a place called Oldham, we had Asian rioting. Imagine! Rioting! Obviously it couldn't have been anywhere near as cool as say, the LA riots, but well, you're a bigger country than us, and we have to see our status as relative to yours. I mean, it's not like white people riot - poor oppressed honkies never get their way, after all, since they rule the country and all, but we Euros have a few years to go before things get that bad. I voted for Obama. Right now is time for some diplomacy on the world stage. I highly doubt McCain's ability to be efficient in that regard, considering he's an incorrigible asshole. And a misogynist.
