Lately there has been a lot of talk about all the new thrash bands that are running rampant nowadays. Some of you like them, othres not so much. I was thinking lets talk about some old school obscure thrash bands that nobody really "checks out".

We all have heard of the Coroners and Voivods, lets get creative here.

I'll start with 3 bands, and add to it if it catches on.

At War, old school american thrash. Motorheadesque, just all round cool. Plus they have a new album due out next year.

Vendetta, yes I've plugged these guys a few times and with good reason. Horribly underrated, very technical and just plain awesome. Brain Damage and Go and Live...Stay and Die are easy to find now. I got them for good price at amazon.ca. Their new album is nothing special, but it has it's moments.

Sacrifice, Canadas answer to Slayer? Yes. And IMO better. 1987's Forward to Termination is a thrash masterpiece, or as I like to call a thrashterpiece. Also pretty easy to find on major sites like amazon.com.

Very well. If that is your custom....

Atrophy - These guys put out a couple full-lengths back in the glory days, "Socialized Hate" and "Violent By Nature". Both have been reissued and are readily available. Both albums are great, with Socialized Hate being the slightly better one.

Xentrix - Little known UK thrashers. These guys put out three albums, I think, but I only have the first one "Shattered Existence". Really great little album, and great production for such an obscure debut. I've heard the second album is also great, and the third not so much. All are reissued and available.

Artillery - These guys kick ass. They started out as a very solid if somewhat straightforward thrash band, but their third album "By Inheritance" in my opinion is a total masterpiece of speed/thrash. If you can deal with melody, this album will have you headbanging.

Look up the channel "TheBurningOfSodom" on youtube, it has a lot of old thrash stuff there.

I'm not sure what qualifies as "obscure", but Nuclear Assault and Evildead are great bands; though I think better ones (that I have heard) have already been mentioned on this forum (Paradox, Heathen, Holy Terror, and Artillery).

Deathrow (from Germany), Blind Illusion (USA), Wrath (USA), Toxik (USA) are the first to come to my mind.

Walnut you know how i love Sacrifice and Vendetta so i agree wholeheartly with your thread.

Another band that you people should check out is "Ultimatum" from Canada they only released one album called "The Iron Age" sadly there isnt much information about this guys so i cant provide a myspace but i swear that they play some awesome Thrash.

I knew I'd get your attention. As I was typing out Sacrifice all I could think of was you. :) :dio:

More bands:

Angel Dust - before they went all power metal, they released a good thrash album called Into the Dark Past. Good stuff, classic german sound and I truely recommend it.

I second the Artillery. I was going to put them in my original post, but they got lost in the maze of bands that came to my head.

Gammacide - fast, heavy thrash from Texas. To the best of my knowledge they only released one album. It's called Victims of Science. Blast beats + fast thrash = FTW.

Hallows Eve - ive only heard Tales of Terror, but I like it. Also, im pretty sure they have a big box set that just got released not too long ago.

and lastly:

Headhunter - not pure thrash, but it has Schmier from Destruction doing the vocals and bass, good stuff. Their debut album Parody of Life is quite good power/thrash, and they just released a new album called Parasite of Society which continues in the same vein as their other 3 albums from the early 90's.

Just a plug for the aussie thrash bands...

Mortal Sin - Most of you guys have heard of them, but they're still pretty obscure I think. Two amazing albums from the 80's and one more which was apparently not so hot (I've only heard the first two) and a comeback album from last year.

Hobbs' Angel of Death - Very fast, very raw, "Virgin metal" from downunder, as Hobbs calls it. Because its so "pure" apparently. I only have a collection of demos, it's all i could find. Anyway, very Slayerish, but pretty good.

I don't think they are that great. Some cool songs like Hitler Painted Roses but mostly nothing noteworthy.

Spanish 80's thrash bands,

http://www.metalreviews.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10798

Another one, very good: Muro.
http://www.myspace.com/porsiempremuro

Some lost forgotten (and good) thrash bands from other countries:

Mordred. Thrash from San Francisco, with FUNKY influences, one of the most strange bands of that times.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbcS_G_GP38

Slayer (the not famous one, from San Antonio). Well, they are not the great band that slayer was, but Go For The Throat is an enjoyable listen.

Holy Moses (classic thrash with a woman singing, the great sabina Classen). Their 80's albums were impressive, queen of Siam, Finished with the dogs and The new machine of Lienchestein .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVzpp4pCc8s

D.R.I. Very good crossover a la Suicidal. Their Thrashzone is a must have for everybody that loves crossover.

Alright, I'll add some more.

Wargasm - Love the name! I only have these guys' second album, called "ugly" and it's really good. I mean, really really good. And I've heard their debut was even better....but I just can't find it anywhere.

Nasty Savage - I have their album "Indulgence" which actually came as a two-pack with their EP "Abstract Reality", really good value purchase, both are great. They have a comeback album from 2004 called "psycho psycho". I haven't heard it, but it's said to be a decent return.

Realm - haven't actually heard them yet, but I have their debut "Endless War" on the way in the mail from Amazon. Meant to be an impressive slice of tech-thrash.

I don't know much about early-days thrash compared to most here, but are Mekong Delta obscure enough for this thread? When I first heard them (quite recently) they totally blew me away and they continue to do so.

Technical thrash with clean, slightly operatic vocals, with a big big classical music influence- in fact this one is a Mussorgsky cover.

well, you could have done something constructive like suggest similar bands that are less well known, but as you didn't, fuck off, I don't care.
