Christopher Hitchens is a "douchebag", as our American friends might say. IMO, at least...

I find the Daily Show to be very funny quite frequently, but it also often distrubinɡ to watch liberal America forcinɡ its proverbial head up its proverbial arse. One time recently ʙill Maher was on and he was just ɡoinɡ on and on about how there was this wonderful "European" half of America where everyone was atheists and wanted to be like France, and the problem was that the other half was just full of "stupid people" that was holdinɡ the ɡood half back.

So, on the one hand you are mockinɡ Sarah Palin for dependinɡ entirely on her ability to appear "folksy" or just like "joe sixpack" or "joe the plumber" or anybody else called Joe (which ɪ aɡree with and think that is pathetic). ʙut on the other hand, you are sittinɡ there in your TV studio talkinɡ about how stupid people are in red states... hmmm perpetuate stereotypes muchʔ

Bill Maher is such a blowhard. I have a list of pundits who have diarrhea of the mouth on both sides and he's on it:

Conservative
Sean Hannity
Bill O'Reilly
Rush Limbaugh
Ann Coulter

Liberal
Michael Moore
Bill Maher
James Carville
Any Hollywood Actor who tries to get political (as mocked in Team America)

During this election, Sean Hannity has taken over the crown of "most ridiculous pundit" in my eyes. Here is but a sampling of his idiocy:

He hosted a special recently called "Obama and Friends: The History of Radicalism" where his centerpiece guest, self-proclaimed Obama "expert" Andy Martin, made a bunch of baseless statements about how Obama will be similar to the Castros, Hugo Chavez, etc. Of course, the moral crusader that Hannity is, he failed to note to his flock of sheep that Andy Martin has made horribly racist and anti-semitic comments on numerous occasions in the past. Gee, hypocritical much? One of Obama's staff called him out on it in a moment of extreme ownage.

Yeah, Sean Hannity is an obnoxious fucker, I used to watch Hannity & Colmes all I could when I was in the US because its kind of a masochistic pleasure for me. Watching Sean do interviews is like blasting uberkvlt grim frostbitten black metal at ear-drum threatening volume, imo. It's painful but you get into it.

I agree. And I'm not saying this just because I disagree with his religious views. The guy seriously needs to see this guy for some anger management:

I like Bill O'Reilly, actually. I think he has a good head on his shoulders (for the most part).

Rush Limbaugh, on the other hand...

One of the things I missed about British news media when I was away were the brutal interviews. On US cable news it seemed to me there was a lot of shouting but mainly from people aligned to certain angles, who would then turn around and be firendly to their "allies" also in the studio. Whereas, with the mighty Paxman you get an equal torrent of unadulterated contempt regardless of who the interviewee is.

In the interests of trans-atlantic bonding, here he is interviewing Ann Coulter

EDIT: Here's a better one with George Galloway

O'Reilly's a sensationalist bully. I can appreciate what he's trying to do with his "journalist of the people" schtick, but he goes about it all wrong. For a recent example, he laid out Barney Frank over the financial crisis, then basically admitted a few days later that it was all for show and that he was creating a "villain" for the story. The guy's a joke in my eyes. Here's the video proof:

http://www.newshounds.us/2008/10/08/bill_oreilly_suggests_barney_frank_attack_was_political_theater.php#more

Entertaining? Yes
Respectable? No

I'm the same as rio, I am somehow sucked into watching these clowns just so I can see what kind of schoolyard bully tactics they can masquerade as journalism.

I used to watch O'Reilly just for the any-day-now purple - face nut attack resulting in his big head exploding... alas, he never quite came through, so I stopped watching.

Maddox put it nicely:

This is a 40 minutes long video of a lecture on the financial crisis which should be extremely interesting for anybody that is sick of the false dichotomy of "liberal" and "conservative" and are interested in entirely different ways of thinking. The lecturer is a socialist but not in the sense that he is a slightly more extreme version of a liberal, but in the proper sense of the word.

You know, it's strange.
Obama is well spoken and he owns McCain in the debate arena.
he has some good ideas, and so does McCain (his point about the most well funded schools scoring lowest in the nation is a good one; more money is not always the answer). I tend to favor Obamas tax break for the middle class, though a flat across the board tax seems the fairest thing, IMO.

But, I've heard all of these same promises before, and nothing changes; the problems this country is facing are nothing new and I can't help but think that the American people are getting the wool pulled over their eyes, yet again.
The whole Joe the Plumber thing was lame.
His name isn't even Joe, for fucks sake

What this country needs to do is cut, cut and cut some more of it's waste and stop this endless war for oil driven foreign policy euphemistically dubbed the War on Terra (doesn't terra mean earth?); the neo-cons need to be tarred and feathered and driven out of town, and all foreign lobbies shut down (AIPAC, anyone?)
WTF is a foreign lobby doing shaping our foreign policy?
This WoT is bankrupting us and destabilizing the world.
We can perform technological feats that are damn near the realm of Pure Fucking Magic, yet we cannot solve the oil depency problem???

Anyways, it looks like Obama will be the next Prez, so we'll see.

And that's what nobody wants to admit. John Stossel had a special on ABC last night where he showed how every Pres since Carter made the same promises while they were campaigning that these two are (energy independence, balanced budget, etc). I guess you have to give the American voting public credit for somehow maintaining hope, but sooner or later these empty promises are going to catch up with Washington.

I think that Stossel special was called "A Politcally Incorrect Guide to Politics". If you ever get a chance to watch it, I recommend it. You'll be shaking your head in disgust constantly.
