I've listened to a song of Toxic Holocaust, Evile and Warbringer and while it's nothing groundbreaking, it sounds nonetheless very good. My favourite song from them so far is Warbringers "At the Crack of Doom". The blast beats are just very unexpected and gives it a little Black Metal touch... :)

I haven't heard Evile yet, but Municipal Waste is awesome. Warbringer and Toxic Holocaust are pretty good also.

The Good
-Evile is my favorite. Enter the Grave is definitely, definitely worth checking out.
-Both Dekapitator, Gama Bomb and Skeletonwitch are pretty damn good.
-Municipal Waste is some classic crossover/thrash if that's what you like.

The Decent to Bad Range
-Warbringer's vocals remind me too much of a metalcore and the album gets kind of repetitive.
-Blood Tsunami has some amazing solos but didn't do much for me.
-Wolfpack Unleashed suck.

I have to agree on Warbringers vocals. It kind of does belong in a more metalcore band. The solos were impressive. But they appeared too often. Evile has the best to offer as far as musicianship. But Toxic Holocaust and Municipal Waste are just fun to headbang and mosh to...

I know the opinions on these bands tend to vary, but easily two of my favourites are Bonded By Blood and Fueled by Fire. Their debut albums are both wonderful.

Then also check out Violator from Brazil, they have an awesome full length called Chemical Assault.

Bywar, also from brazil, have 3 albums all of them good to great.

SSS, (short sharp shock) from the UK are crossover thrash, similar to municipal waste. I PERSONALLY think they're just as good. they also have a full-length with another one on the way soon, apparently.

Hatchet are an awesome Bay-Area-style thrash band from the U.S. They have an album released a few months ago, it's called Awaiting Evil and it has some excellent lead guitar playing all over it.

If you like your thrash really fast and raw, check out Merciless Death. They have two full-lengths, the second one is better for my money.

There's also a band called Victimizer from Denmark. They have a very solid full-length released last year called the final assault. I think they broke up though.

All the other bands mentioned here so far are REALLY great as well, so don't think i'm dissing them or anything, im just trying to mention ones that no one else has. The only one out of all the bands mentioned here that I dont really like is Avenger of Blood. I have their second album, Death Brigade, but it just never clicked for me.

I haven't yet had a chance to check out Head-on Collision or Hexen, but based on the reviews on this very site, I very much plan to.

I'm just excited to see new life being shocked into a genre where I am forced to replay countless 80s tracks. Don't get me wrong, Slayer will never leave my boombox. But it's great to see new alleys being explored. I was going to get a Death Metal band together but after seeing the capability of the modern thrash and the stress free musicianship I can see myself getting into this.

??? Where do you guys are overall seeing Metalcore... as if it's a evil ghost that's destroying all "good" in the metal world.

The vocals are actually reminding me more of Death Metal like Obituary and Benediction and old Exodus stuff with Ballof.

1, Metalcore is detrimental to the genre as a whole as it draws ignorant fans in their early teens. Also, I can't stand most of it as most of us would agree. There are many mistakes being made in this genre.

2, If you haven't heard it yet, make a serious effort to get a copy of Enter the Grave by Evile. It's awesome...

SSS are pretty good, whoever mentioned them.

I tend to listen to as little of the new wave of thrash as I can, so the few good bands really make an impression and I'm not just listening to a tidal wave of shit, as metalcore turned into. I do advise you all to check Hexen out, as thrashtildeath mentioned, they take a much more genuine old-school route. Plus, Holy Terror likes them.

I don't know, but at least - attitude, image, outfits, looks aside - it's IMO the least sucking new metal genre after 1990. Grunge, Alternative, NuMetal, Crossover, Emo etc. are IMO all worse.

And if you are looking like Tokyo Hotel and playing like Slayer... just look at Sonic Syndicate... if you hear them, you'd never think, that they look as they do.

But anyway I am wondering why it took ca. 20 years that bands like Warbringer or Evile are coming too the scene, while in the 90s we've had to bear wimped out watered down classic thrash bands and alternativ BS?

Sonic Syndicate are a dreadful band, though. Bog-standard metalcore BUT LOOK AT THE FEMALE BASSPLAYER! You can't tell me bands from the Alt and Grunge world like Tool, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains etc kill most identicore bands today in terms of great music made.

Hmm, of the new thrash bands around today that I have heard I would say Municipal Waste and Send More Paramedics are the good ones, and Toxic Holocaust and Merciless Death are the ones I wasn't too impressed by. Can't think of that many more new thrash bands I listen to... I nearly bought an Evile album the other week but I got Coroner RIP instead... I like old thrash more epsecially if it is techy.

I don't know. Great music is very much just personal taste. I think grunge/nu metal is just boring. For "mainstream" people are Slayer or most of the new thrash bands hear mostly just loud noise. They would listen more to mainstream addicted nu rock and nu metal. And that is what I don't like about the alternativ wave. It is just toooooo much mainstream radio friendly pop-rock. And that is what I like on Metalcore. They are bringing death and thrash sound into the mainstream.

But back to the new wave of thrash metal. I think I need more room for the cd's...

Are you lumping nu metal and grunge together? Industrial metal is new and has some great bands.

For me, Grunge, Alternative, Nu Metal, Nu Rock sucks altogether. At the beginning of the 90s I hated Grunge, because it stood against all what was the classic Hard Rock or Metal genre. Today I'm not hating it, but I still didn't like it. And Nu Metal was worse because it abuses metal riffs with electronic shit or High School pop melodies crap...

Maybe Metalcore Bands have the same target audience, BUT it has, as I've said, more in common with classic Death and Thrash. And mostly it abandons keyboards and electronic crap and rap vocals. The whole Hip Hop / Rap influence is what really sucks in Nu Metal.

But I think we've had this discussion here already in another thread.
