I think SIT is the only Maiden album which has no weak song. Maybe there is no "Run to the Hills" or "The Trooper" or 2 Minutes to Midnight", but EVERY song is great!

The other albums do have some weak tracks (like Running Free, Drifter, Different World, The Wicker Man, Wildest Dreams, Moonchild, Face in the Sand, the whole Blaze Bayley era... ) but not Somewhere in Time. From "Caught Somewhere In Time" to "Alexander the Great" - every song is just incredible.

It's IMO the BEST Iron Maiden album!

Whoah...whoah...whoah...."Moonchild" kicks ass. :dio:

Seventh Son, best album. Used to be Powerslave for me, but SSOASS has taken it over in a big way for me.

Wildest Dreams is also awesome. How could you possibly call that a "weak song"? That actually sounded more like classic Maiden than anything on Brave New World IMO.

I'm wating that someone says that Virtual XI is their best album...

Come on, IMO on Brave New World, nearly every other song is way better than Wildest Dreams (except Blood Brothers and Wicker Man).

And does Wildest Dreams sound like Alexander the Great, Powerslave, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Heaven Can Wait or SSOASS?

But songs like the Wicker Man or Wildest Dreams are nothing compared to old classics like 2 Minutes 2 Midnight or The Trooper and songs like Ghost of the Navigator or Brave New World are just way way better than TWM. The last good short fast songs of Maiden were IMO Be Quick or be Dead and From Here to Eternity.

lol, I can't believe this thread is still going. Very persistent for a hit or miss thread.

And who the hell voted Miss, anyway,?! Hehe. Not a popular opinion...

Only recently I have tried getting into this album, and it actually opened up for me. In my opinion it's the best album from the classic period (1980-1989) alongside "The Number of the Beast".
Really like the "science fiction" feel and the somewhat "futuristic" atmosphere of the songs. The guitar sound is a bit different but it fits in with the album. I think it's a very different Iron Maiden album, and even though "Seventh Son" is a concept album, it's actually easier for me to listen to this one and connect with the lyrics. :dio:

For me, The Wicker Man, Wildest Dreams and Different World sounded all like fillers, compared with the other songs on the respective album - and compared to old songs like 2 Minutes to Midnight, Run to the Hills, Aces High, Be Quick or be dead or something like that.

What I think make these new songs so good are the fact that it seems like the boys have put down some hard work with it. They sound so complete and alive, in comparison to the older ones sounding more raw. (Maybe this doesn't make sense at all... :) )
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the newest albums have all been recorded in a "live-setting". Not exactly sure what that means, though. Bruce's vocals are also better now IMO.

Maybe that "live" sound is what I don't like. The drums are sounding bad, the guitars not so good. The production quality of the newer albums is more demo-like.

Does this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdNNfsSZOts or this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhboyKhhaCw sounds better than this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIjPwzL_ ... re=related or this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjBdQLe6KCQ or this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZlDZPYzfm4 ? I know youtube has not the best quality, but the IMO better production of the earlier records is still audible.

Even Virtual XI sounds really good compared to the production of the newer albums. Iron Maiden should have stuck with Martin Birch. IMO the production on the last three albums were very messy and hard to distinguish (guitars/drums are disgusting sounding really on Dance Of Death). It would definitely sound more like classic Maiden at any rate if they stuck with their old producer. Part of me tells me that Steve Harris decided to not master the guitars for AMOLAD because they would've sounded like shit haha

(BTW add "fmt=18" at the end of youtube video URLs for better quality)

Maybe they didn't master it so they can re-release it later with improved production. :D That would totally rock! :P

I don't think the originals are destroyed anyhow anyway (especially with the way things are recorded today).

But yeah, I can't wait till' the day the "loudness war" ends and all the labels re-release all of today's modern albums remixed with actual dynamics and improved sound quality overall.
I've always wondered what some albums would sound like if you took the raw tracks and gave them to a producer/mixer/engineer to recreate without hearing the original album...
