Seeing as to how the two albums are quite similar, which is better IYO?

I know most will disagree with me, but I have to go with BTR. I just find its songs more energetic, more diverse (gotta love those "steel guitar"-sounding acoustic bits!), and interesting. The first three songs, Slaves Of Pain, and Primitive Future are probably my favorite songs. Mass Hypnosis is also cool.

Arise, while a great album, is somewhat lacking in personality IMO. May be the problem is that it just doesn't deviate enough from BTR to really feel like more than a rehash (despite the fact that it's decidedly more controlled and less death metal-ish). My favorite songs are the first three, Altered State, and Under Siege.

Arise, narrowly. It's the more mature of the two.

The first three tracks of BTR are just too great to vote against. I'm not a big fan of Arise.

Who do you love more, your dad or your mom?
I'm going with Arise, I think is somewhat more mature, but it's a really difficult choice.

Arise, I think the overall sound is more powerful even if you don't get as many riffs as BTR.

I've only heard Arise which I like alot. Something tells me I should get beneath the remains too.

Indeed, it's much the same thing, but slightly better.

Damn ! I knew I should have given those albums a fair amount of listens. One of my friends gave it to me and everytime I used to play it, I got distracted for some reason. I have yet to pick both of them. So, this poll might help me in finding out which one to pick up first. I have purchased a kind of greatest hits stuff of Sepultura and I liked the tracks from both albums that it had. I must admit the WHO WHO WHO part of the chorus of BTR was pretty funny when I listened to it at first. Sounded like he tasted something bitter and is spitting out making the sound Thu Thu Thu. :P Both these albums are on my "to buy" list.

Beneath The Remains, clearly! mostly fast throughout, unlike Arise which slows down way too much (tbh, the only songs that i really love in that album are Arise and Infected Voice), and it sounds really aggressive while still being decidedly more thrash than death.

Primitive Future is the coolest song in the album, it just stomps ass form the first second all the way to the end.

I fucking LOVE arise.....

But at risk of losing my thrash credentials I must admit I've never heard Beneath the Remains...let alone own it. Must get to that....

I prefer BTR.much more technical than Arise, but still a bit too clean for a thrash album. I take Schizophrenia(and maybe also Morbid Visions) over BTR.

Well, actually it's all the same; They're both really good albums so the best thing would be to buy them both!

Beneath the Remains is more memorable, but yeah, they are pretty damn close to each other.

Ok, so when I first read this thread, as I said, I hadn't heard beneath the remains.

But I thought to myself, how could Sepultura have an album even better than Arise? All the people voting for BTR are probably on some nostalgic trip, I said to myself.

But then I went out and bought the album. Holy Jesus Christ Monkey Balls what an album!

But I'll be fucked if i'm ever going to vote for one album or the other. Impossible choice.
