Possessed - Seven Churches (I can't believe this one isn't on there yet...pure blasphemy!)

Yeah im not a huge death metal fan, but i cant see why Possessed didnt made the list, im also shocked that no one else voted for Pestilence too.

Indeed, was gonna put Consuming Impulse on there but had already reached my 10. Come to think of it, probably should have taken Litany out and put Consuming Impulse in, instead...though I still love Litany.

in no particular order

immolation - unholy cult
immolation - here in after
cryptopsy - none so vile
death - symbolic
at the gates - the red in the sky is ours
opeth - orchid
decrepit birth - diminishing between worlds (cant wait to hear how they mature this amazing sound)
behemoth - thelema 6
necrophagist - epitaph or onset of putrefaction, both are totally equal in my eyes even though they offer slightly different atmospheres (speaking of the phagist why are they missing from this site!?)
last but not least cynic - focus ! why is this not on the list?? sure the robotic vocals are annoying but the music itself is fkn amazing.

I don't think Necrophagist deserves a place. Sure it's technical and impressive, but it lacks any kind of "soul" or "heart". Seems like Muhammed goes by the "as long as it's difficult to play it doesn't matter what it sounds like"-book of death metal.

I have to disagree. Necrophagist has more heart than any brutal death metal band does. And dimension.

Now be a good man and take down those silly GIFs.

heh, thats exactly what my thoughts were the first time i listened to epitaph. about the half way mark i started to get bored because it all sounded the same and i thought it was just wankery with zero inspiration. it wasnt until my 2nd+ rounds with epitaph that the music started to open up to me and i realized its actually the exact opposite.

its incredibly strange how it goes from sounding like pure technical mumbo jumbo to incredibly well crafted songs each with their own atmosphere and textures and that is possibly why both necrophagist cds are so impressive to me (besides the obvious reasons). there are alot of subtle melodies and EVERYTHING about the music takes repeated listens to fully understand. nothing is really catchy about it until it has all sunk into your head, solos and even vocal patterns included, not just the riffs.

i dunno i  phagist they are one of the best tech death bands out there imo.

There are a lot of bands who does tech death better than Necrophagist. Martyr, Sceptic, Decrepit Birth, Visceral Bleeding, Spawn Of Possession from the top of my head.

Yes, but they don't capture the same feeling that Necrophagist does (the exceptions being Decrepit Birth and Cryptopsy).

lol now we are starting to nitpick about what "soul" really means to someone. death certainly had alot of melodic and passionate aspects to their music which could easily be interpreted as "soul", but necrophagist and lots of other tech death bands such as cryptopsy or even cynic, decrepit birth etc......all do something totally different but they all have some meat to it besides just ripping out stupifying technicalities. i guess its all interpretation but i can see where your coming from as death was definitely the most passionate of the bunch.

just recently i went on a suffocation binge and im quite ashamed to say i never real got into them before but now im glad i did. you can add despise the sun ep to the list and if thats not allowed because it isnt a full length then its a toss up between effigy of the forgotten and pierced from within.

suffo is seriously amazing they deserve to be on a best of list for ANY musical genre period.

I was just about to say how the hell you put TB instead of TOTM until I read on :P

Is Human your favourite Death album? IMO it's their third best after Symbolic and ITP.
