No, because I don't think you had any pre-conceived bias against Cryptopsy or Slipknot...if Trivium's new album is really good, this bias probably wouldn't affect your opinion, but I suspect that if it is okay/kind of good (which it probably will be) then you would be inclined to say that it sucks balls when it's really pretty decent.

Or, more simply, don't review music you know you won't like.

Eh. I'm not exactly excited about that one...but I wasn't a big fan of Anthem We are the Fire or whatever so hopefully Shogun will still be good.

I am capable of rational thought, you know. I am capable of looking at something and seeing it from more positions than my own, which is what being a reviewer's all about. We haven't got the magical ability to give each writer only stuff that they like - part of the whole experience is listening to something out of your field and being able to sum it up without going AW THIS IS SHIT BECOS ITS NOT LIKE ENSLAVD. Which I could do with everything I write, goddamnit, have a little faith in people.

Christ, always the Trivium fans.

I'm sorry, but I highly doubt the new Trivium is that good. I used to enjoy them a few years ago with whatever the CD before the Crusade was called but I was never a huge fan. The Crusade was just somewhat mediocre like the album before it, so unless they've totally shifted I doubt it's going to be amazing.

And after just now listening to the new song I still think that... It's not bad, but certainly nothing amazing.

New Psycroptic sounds like awesome times, thanks Dago. Gonna DL and have a look. :P

Also, can't wait for new Skyfire. I have two of their albums I can't remember the names of.

The new psycroptic is good. It would have been awesome if it wasn't for the avarage vocals.

I heard the drum sound is strange, is that right?

I know you're capable of it, but...

You'll just have to deal with a mediocre review because if the album is anything like that Myspace song, that's what it's going to be.

did you listen to the three songs from the new album on their profile. They are actually pretty entertaining. I'm not a huge fan or anything but I enjoy listening to Trivium especially their album Ascendancy which is their best IMO. They are pretty good musicians and I find it pretty harsh that they are getting bashed around so much by some group of metal fans. Bashing Trivium is highly related to their popularity and high profile presence in Metal media coverage and as the coverage will eventually diminish so will some of the hatred.

that song isn't bad but when i listen to it at the same time as watching the video it annoys me. if the whole album is like it i'd enjoy it. i thought that about the BOAT RUDDER STRANGE MOUNTAIN song though too

edit: gets really bitchin in the 2nd half

It pisses me off when bands write songs giving more importance to pumping the crowd in concerts than the actual music.

Listening to that song again, it seems better. I still don't like the verse part very much, but the rest is pretty cool. Heafy's vocals are a lot better than in the past, clean and growly. I think the screams with more Crusade-style thrash works pretty well...I'm moderately hopeful for this album. It would be cool to see some Japanese-style musical influences since that seems to be the theme of the album.

a lot of bands exist to connect with the crowd during live performances and their music reflects that. "pumping the crowd" is something that the "actual music" does; they're not two different things. if it's the band's goal, then a good song will get the crowd into it. and just because a chorus is written to be sung along too doesn't mean that it's easy to write.

yeah the verse is pretty weak. the intro is cool though, and the part after the second chorus

I won't be listening to any more songs. I'm not the " I'm so kvlt it hurts " guy. I'm the melodeath kid here, remember? I just don't think they're really doing anything that special or anything really to warrant any buzz.

They are talented musicians, but I find their work to be boring. I midly enjoyed Ascendancy, The Crusade was just OK, and at this point I'm not really interested in any more Trivium.

They're going to get bashed. Deal with it. My favorite band is In Flames, and I never hear the end of it. I could care less how popular a band is, just so long as they play what I like and play it well. Trivium does not do that for me. Just deal with the opinions of others and listen to what you like.

I'm not knocking they have talent, I just think what they do is pretty weak.
