Overrated and underrated metal musicians?

Silly thread. Obviously, a place as elitist as this is going to overrate and underrate the exact opposite artists as, say, the Metal Hammer forum would. It all depends on perspective.

Still:

Overrated - Trivium, Slipknot, Incantation, AC/DC, Korpiklaani, new Blut Aus Nord
Underrated - Alchemist, Skyclad, Amoral, Napalm Death, old Blut Aus Nord

Judas Priest, Accept, pretty much all "classic" heavy metal except for Iron Maiden. IMO it's just glorified hard rock and not that good.

chill. Painkiller owns but I don't like anything else by Judas Priest (admittedly Painkiller is the newest thing I've heard by them...heh heh) and I don't even think PK is one of the greatest albums ever. I'll stick to my comment about other "classic" metal bands like Motley Crue, AC/DC, Accept, etc. though. And Trivium isn't great, they're decent, but they are underrated because they're not shit like everyone says. As for Mastodon, they're probably not underrated but they are good.

Overrated: Slayer
Underrated: metalcore

Sin After Sin, Sad Wings of Destiny, Stained Class, Killing Machine, British Steel, Screaming for Vengeance, Defenders of the Faith, and Painkiller are all metal classics. Haven't heard all of Point of Entry. Turbo is pretty boring and Ram it Down is laughable. Rocka Rolla is an awesome 70's rock album.

Have you really listened to Accept????
AC/DC is hard rock, Motley Crue is hard rock, but Accept is metal, and great heavy metal.

I don't have anything by them, but I've heard some of their songs. Don't mean to imply that they're the same as or similar to AC/DC or Motley crue, I just mean that type of metal in general.

What

Megadeth did one good album (Risk), Destruction and Sodom always sucked and Dream Theather is useless wankery.
On the other hand, Def leppard, Scorpions, MSG & Triumh can (could for Triumph since they're no longer active) write great tunes!

Maybe Sodom are not what you like in a band, but i can assure you they never sucked! Destruction i can agree their later albums are kind of bad, but the old stuff is awesome.

Kamelot
Manticora's Black Circus albums
Iron Maiden (great band, dont get me wrong, probably wouldn't even make my top 50 bands though, Im just not hearing that something that makes them so special)
Hammerfall's first 2 albums

Underrated:
James LaBrie as a vocalist (he is amazing in Dream Theater, Mullmuzzler and his last solo album)
Virgin Steele (People who know the band, love the band but I don't see them mentioned alot at all and they deserve more recognition)
Virgin Steele's Visions of Eden album
Jon Oliva's Pain (3 albums that rival some of Savatage's best)
Messiah's Kiss - Dragonheart album (Heard alot of negatives for this album but picked it up anyways and its pretty awesome)

Yea, but he's not that good anymore anyway. Or, on score he was absolutely terrific, but from what I heard from their chaos in motion tour, he seems to be struggling. (I own a bootleg dvd.)
