maybe some controversial ones and more than likely just my own opinion...

possessed- seven churches...kinda responsible for helping to create the death metal genre period....

at the gates - the red in the sky is ours...highly underrated album. it might be hard to stomach at first due to the god awful production (although it gives the cd an almost black metallish melancholic charm)but its amazing and by far my favorite from them. i think alot of people credit them for helping to create the melodeath genre and i would agree, although they like to point out slaughter of the soul as their defining moment and i honestly couldnt disagree more. imo that is by far their most boring and bland album but that could have alot to do with me not really enjoying straight up thrash, which that is just with deathy vocals.

anyways i think atg original more progressive albums probably had more influence on the genre (despite just being better albums) because they were not only more melodic, but it came out before slaughter of the soul.

immolation - here in after. its just an amazing cd from an amazing band period. i dont really think it exploded the genre and influenced thousands of bands, but it quietly snuck under the radar as one of the best dm albums ever.

me votes :dio:

Agreed on the Possessed and the Immolation. I just got the Immolation and it has really surprised me. I really like it but someone with a more seasoned opinion might make a better judgment on it. I'm still biased by how much it has caught me off guard. THEY'LL BURN WITH JESUS :dio:

Oh and I don't really like At the Gates so yeah.

You should review The Red In The Sky Is Ours... I think it would fit in the classics section because it's one of the greatest Melodic Death Metal albums I've ever heard. It's way better than the bullshit they call Melodic Death nowadays.

You know you should do what I said earlier. This album kicks everything else in the ass. And also some Carcass would be great.

I'm going to be controversial - Roots is more of a classic than Arise. Arise is just the sound of the band coming off the awesome Beneath The Remains, mixing in some crap groove stuff to make Arise, then going all-out groove without doing it right to make Chaos AD, then realising what can be done and producing Roots.

I know few will agree with me here, but Schizophrenia >>>>> Arise.

I don't understand, this is supposed to be a metal reviews web site and there's as much system of a down being reviewed as there is Black Sabbath albums. There's even some Nu-Metal bullshit in the classics section, for satan's sake do something. How about some Mercyful Fate - Melissa. What is a classic if that's not?

What are you talking about?

I need to check Roots out if it's really that good. I was just looking and saw Chaos AD was a classic. To me that is goofy but whatever.

He's got a point, though, we do need more Sabbath. Maybe once I've finished the Rush run-through...

You bloody fool, Melissa and Don't Break the Oath are pure pwn. Pure, unadulterated pwn. I only got DBTO a couple of weeks ago but fuck me, it's something I should've got a long time ago.

I'm not bitching, I'm just saying this is some fucked up shit.. I just feel some real classic Metal has been forgotten, why not throw in some George Thorogood while we're at it! (No disrespect to George, but this is Metal Reviews ain't it?) Anyway, I think you guys are doing a great job for the most part.

I'm talking about Satan, who for example would not be too pleased to see Strapping Young Lad in the classics while the TOTALLY INSANE Kreator - Pleasure To Kill wich has influenced virtually any Death Metal band out there has not even been reviewed yet. Satan is a badass mother fucker, so don't mess around with Satan.

Well, according to South Park, Satan is gay. So that must mean that Kreator is pretty gay, too.

SYL = Nu-metal. Ewwwww. I would complain first about Genesis before City but whatever.

I think everyone realizes that bands like Black Sabbath and Mercyful Fate are classics, probably most people even know Pleasure to Kill is a classic. Not every classic can be reviewed instantaneously. I think it is better that they review the lesser well known stuff like Neurosis, Manilla Road or Genesis before they review Black Sabbath's self-titled. Everyone knows the latter is a classic while not everyone may have realized how great some lesser known classics like City are.

Oh and Death's symbolic needs to be reviewed.
