For those of us who don't download CD's that have "leaked", Cradle of Filth have provided us with a free download of the track "Tragic Kingdom" from their new CD Godspeed On The Devil's Thunder. It sounds more reminiscent of their Median era writing but recorded with their current production tones.

It doesn't bother me. There's no doubt that I've seen worse album covers. The music is all that matters to me. :dio:

So Dani stopped growling, screaming or doing anything which could be remotely classified as harsh vocals? The song sounds like something they've already released. The chants at the end are interesting but could've been used better like making them louder to contrast with Dani.

He has his patented screech sprinkled throughout the song but for the majority of the song his vocals are on par with his performance on Thornography. He's created a hybrid that his voice can handle. I don't think that Dani could continue with the constant high-pitched screeching that he was known for earlier in his COF career. I would imagine it was only a matter of time before he would blow out his voice permanently attempting that over time. I like it and I am still looking forward to the release later in October.

the opening riff, which is scattered throughout sounds very similar to the opening riff of Thurisaz by Graveland, just an observation...

Meh. I've lost hope already. Nymphetamine had some nice songs but it was already going in the wrong direction. Then came Thornography which I guess was their St. Anger. So, that makes Godspeed on the Devil's Thunder their Death Magnetic... It's all logical and shiz. :blink:

But compared to St. Anger, Thornography had great songs, a great sound, many soli and a good snare sound. :wink:

I have to agree. I've often wondered if Lars has become partially tone deaf and just does not realize that his snare currently sounds like a trash can lid?

I guess Thornography was a bigger let down for me than St. Anger was really. Mostly because I enjoy Cradle more, although the more I think about it the stranger the comparison between them seems :lol:

Anyway, I'm not going to build up my hope this time around, so maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

This is a concept album, based on the life of the infamous 15th century French
nobleman, Gilles De Rais, who fought alongside Joan of Arc and accumulated great

The title of the album derives from a valediction vocalist Dani Filth once used to sign a letter.

Not too bad. If I didn't hate his vocals so much I might get into it. Well, it's not just him. It's black metal screeching in general.

But yeah, the song is better than I expected.

I think it's the best COF since a long time and the turn to the roots is IMO more surprising than of Metallica. GOTDT has everything that Principle or Dusk or Cruelty or Midian had. Wild blast beat orgies, evil black metal melodies, screams (+ the newer grunts)...just old Cradle of Filth.
