I thank Stefan for introducing these guys to me more than a year ago. This album is just basically perfect hardcore.

The only album of its kind that I really fucking love. A classic, indeed.

Still not heard this! Anyway, this opens the door for a review of that other great post-hardcore record, Relationship Of Command.

That is a great review Zadok!
I'm glad this finally got a review here, if one hardcore-related album had to it was The Shape Of Punk To Come (whose title was, indeed, a reference to Ornette).
One thing, the DJ is italian, not spanish...

don't really like this album, no idea why it's a classic. the hardcore parts are pretty good the rest is stupid

also stuff like this is silly and pretentious http://www.burningheart.com/refused/refmanifest5.htm

Bravo, Zad! Never thought i'd see this album reviewed here. Most definitely a classic... and one that reminds me of my punk and hardcore days.

Influences range far and wide – the name of the album may or may not have been borrowed from Ornette Coleman’s 1959 release The Shape Of Jazz To Come

Certainly is, there is a lot of Jazz influence on this album, I think. A lot more than there is on most other hardcore records that claim to be jazz influenced.

Great album!

Definitely a classic, exactly what I like about hardcore... and Jeff is wrong. :D

Good band. Entirely overrated. Snapcase did it first and better, as well as many other bands. And they're not progressive at all. That word gets thrown around way too much these days.

This is a good album, but Songs To Fan The Flames Of Discontent blows it away.

yeah that's what annoys me about this. Refused weren't really revolutionary or new they just said they were and people believe them. also irony that their sound has been co-opted by the mainstream with stuff like Thrice ^_^

By your logic, The Mars Volta aren't progressive either... just because Refused does something after another band, doesn't mean that Refused aren't progressive. Hell, that would make Rush non-prog.

And Ken, kindly name five bands that you consider to be progressive, please.

I think it's a great album but I don't get why it is deemed so important in some circles.

And noodles, learn your prog man!

I'm going to assume you're being deliberately silly with that one.
