Just heard the track thrash speed burn. Realized I've heard it before...dunno where. But I really like it.

Listening to rot the devil king now, also very awesome.

You know, I was about done until you had to open your big mouth.

I finished the Hatchet album, and yeah it's pretty good. I don't know if it is good enough to crack my top ten list, but it will definitely get a purchase if I find it online. The solo's are by far my favourite part.

I didn't mean I would have a hard time looking for it.

I really meant, if I remember it next time I buy online, then I will get it. :)

This year the ones that have retained my attention so far are:

Protest The Hero - Fortress
Alpha Galates - A Stimulus For Reason
Kiuas - The New Dark Age
In Flames - A Sense of Purpose
Coldplay - Viva la Vida or Death and Friends
Opeth - Watershed
Daylight Dies - Lost To The Living

waiting for: Evergrey, Poisonblack and others

My favorites in no particular order:

Stormwarrior - Heading Northe
Decrepit Birth - Diminishing Between Worlds
Prostitute Disfigurement - Descendants of Depravity
Kataklysm - Prevail
Dismember - Dismember
Hour Of Penance - The Vile Conception
Rotten Sound - Cycles

Still waiting on a lot of albums. New stuff coming up from Cattle Decapitation, Unmerciful, Suffocation, Morbid Angel, Amon Amarth, Severed Savior, Devourment (rumors at least) and Evocation.

I can't really think of the albums I've bought that came out this year. Just browsing through this thread, my number one is definitely PTH--Fortress. The Mars Volta--Bedlam would be number two. I really want to check out more of the death metal that's come out this year, though.

New mars volta is a winner. Decrepit Birth, Whitesnake, and Keep of Kalessin har put out som pretty good albums. I can't remember everything I've bought from 2008. Looking forward to the new Exodus, Norma Jean and of course Metallica even though I don't have high expectations. New Opeth was good but not as great as its predecessor. Haven't checked out Pyramaze, Origin or Judas Priest yet.

I think Origins Antithesis is grossly over-rated. Its GOOD, not perfect. It's fast and it's technical, however it lacks one thing: Punch. It's got no power at all. The double bass drumming for example sounds like a whiny firecracker rather than a machine gun. Live it probably kicks serious ass, but not in your speakers at home.

I think it's repetitive and lacks variety as well, but I can roll with that if the sound's good.

from what I've heard it may be totally awesome and it may be not. That kind of music tends to get very repetitive.

Most people say it is. It's good enough to buy, no doubt about that but it just doesn't appeal to me. Diminishing Between Worlds is way better IMO.

In Flames - A Sense Of Purpose
Arsis - We Are The Nightmare
Scar Symmetry - Holographic Universe
The Monolith Deathcult - Triumvirate

I think that's about it for me, I'm probably missing some though.

The new Moonsorrow is an EP, but has a length of 68 minutes. Is it eligible for voting at the end of the year?
