If Death Magnetic sounds anything like the cover of "Remember Tomorrow" i'll be a little satisfied.... good cover.

no. It takes passion and hard work. Sitting back making money off past successes does not make for new great material. Too old, priorities in life have changed and money has affected the entire process. I also doubt they r a tight knit group of guys at this point in their life so that will also affect the studio and songwriting appraoch. They have too much good young competition and are held at too high of a standard that they will not be able to meet. It will not happen, the best you can hope for is a solid, listenable rock/metal album, hopefully with the re-additions of lead guitar work and a precise production. That is the best we can hope for and expect. If they fail to meet at least that, then oh my :( lost for words if that happens

You can't teach an old dog new tricks. The best we can hope for is an album like Load/Reload, I don't even think the new album will be thrash, maybe a little better than St. Anger. I herd the new songs on youtube. They are both horrible. I saw them live last night and thank god they only played songs from their first 4 albums, except for "Nothing Else Matters" and "Enter Sandman". It was interesting, they played 5 songs from "Kill 'Em All", 4 from "Ride the Lightning" and a few from "Master of Puppets" and "...And Justice for All" Off Topic but Down, Pentagram and the Sword were awesome too.

I was just looking at the tracklist, "The Unforgiven III" wtf? I was bad enough, then II, now III. No hope at all.

Here's the final tracklisting:

1. "That Was Just Your Life"
2. "The End of the Line"
3. "Broken, Beat & Scarred"
4. "The Day That Never Comes"
5. "All Nightmare Long"
6. "Cyanide"
7. "The Unforgiven III"
8. "The Judas Kiss"
9. "Suicide & Redemption"
10. "My Apocalypse"

Not a bad set of titles overall. But why do I get the impression Metallica deliberately did a third Unforgiven just to stir up more controversy? The original sucked. The second one was pretty good. But a third one seems unnecessary. It's like they're trying to do what Dream Theater's been doing with their last few albums (creating a "song saga", with every album or every other album featuring a new part of the saga - which is ironic because Unforgiven 2's lyrical plot had nothing to do with the original).

I have a theory about "The Unforgiven III". Assuming they wrote the music first and the lyrics later, my guess is they wrote a song with heavy verses and melodic chorus just like The Unforgiven I/II and therefor slapped it with the working title "The Unforgiven III". When it came time to write the lyrics they already had some ideas going for The Unforgiven III that they just went with it.

Just pointless speculation. And how can you not like The Unforgiven? I think it's possibly their best song since One.

Wherever I may Roam, Of Wolf and Man, The God That Failed and, My Friend of Misery are all vastly supperior to Unforgiven. How can you say thats their best song since one? Now black album wasn't a great album i wouldn't even call it good. More mediocore. However it has some alright tracks unforgiven was not one of them. Also on another not neither was nothing else matters.

I like Nothing Else Matters. But I've just always hated the original Unforgiven (especially that guitar solo). Agreed about those four songs being superior. In fact, The God That Failed is probably my favorite song on TBA.

The Unforgiven is a classic, it's better than most of the shit on the s/t.

"Nothing Else Matters" is a good song, it's just that people don't want to hear that kind of stuff from Metallica. "The God That Failed" is also my fravorite song from s/t. And what's with "Fuel" a lot of people seem to like it, I hate it.

+1, the Unforgiven is a killer song. Though I'm sick of Nothing Else Matters, too fucking soppy. I like the Black album though, it has some good/killer songs on it, and I'd rate it 7.5/10 at the most. If they didn't release those awesome 80s albums, it would be higher.

It's the closest Metallica got to a thrash song on both Load and ReLoad.

Which tells its own story, really...

Im not really expecting master of puppetsII but the clips ive heard seem promising... Im cautiously optimistic. Im happy that hammet will be soloing again, if they could at least put something out that restores some dignity that would be a huge start.

True since the line 'give me fuel, give me fire, give me that which I desire' is pretty much lame.

Ok I've never been any kind of Metallica fan, I honestly have never understood what's so damn special, but If by "comeback" you mean something as good as Ride The Lightning, Kill em All and hahihahiha, then No. They are more worried about how their hair looks when they get out of bed, than making a decent thrash metal album.
