Although, thrash is indeed the most stale genre in metal. There is not much experimentation going on, and if you haven't heard a LOT of it, it's hard to tell the difference from one band or another.
I love thrash don't get me wrong, but I almost always know what to expect in a good way or a bad way.

Try any German band: Kreator or Sodom, they sound nothing like US Thrash. Eben thrash from NY (Anthrax), which is more Hardcore influenced and Thrash from the Bay-Area sound different (Metallica, Megadeth etc.)

Metallica has a more epic sound, where slayer is like proto-death metal extreme.

Sepultura also sounds different

Celtic Frost or Hellhammer sound nothing like the big 4 either, their blackened thrash sounds more like Venom

Venom sounds very different too, with their NWOBHM/Thrash/Black mix

what about Voivod very progressive and different.

or bands like D.R.I. that play crossover thrash sound different too

Atheist, good example of thrash that sounds like nothing else, mix of Jazz/Thrash/Death

You see, thrash has endless variations, without thrash there would be no black metal or death metal, without thrash we wouldn't have the whole extreme metal scene we love today, thrash is the fondation of most metal today and overall the best genre in metal and music as a whole.

Enough said. Thrash 'till Death! :dio:

These bands may sound different but still use the same formulas or thrash riffing, the difference between them are not vast as, say, Deathspell Omega and Ved Buens Ende or Aborym and Urfaust or Krieg and Blut Aus Nord.

No youre wrong, you think theyre not as different but thats becasue thrash is not your main genre, for me all those bands you mentioned sounds the same.

I don't have a main genre. I have listened to thrash for 4 years straight though, I know all there is to know. Trust me. And if you think that Aborym sounds like Urfaust, I don't see why we should have this conversation.

Thrash is the most stagnant genre of metal. Deal with it. It's not comparable to the most progressive of the genres, black metal. Not by a long shot. Hell, bm is more progressive than what people think prog metal is.

However, none of this changes the fact that thrash rules and I just rocked out to some Nuclear Assault.

black metal is more open as far as incorporating other styles into the music since bands can do that and still maintain the atmosphere. as far as the actual black metal parts go, i wouldn't say it's more diverse than thrash. comparing genres is kinda silly anyways

I'm going to be controversial and say that, hactually, Power Metal is the most stagnant genre of Metal.

A good riff is never overrated.

Agreed. Riffs are what a song can be built off of. They make the song. Sure a song can have an amazing solo however without smooth transistions and a solid riff the song seems sloppy.

Perhaps. However, black metal is more about the atomsphere, so one shouldn't go in expecting some killing riff that'll make you shit your pants. Although there are some blackened bands who specialize in said riffing, like Crebain and (again) Leviathan.

Old Satyricon also have some killer riffing though. like Mother North, which is a classic.

I've tried these guys, and all though the music is pretty cool, I can't stand the singer.

Nobody's given me any new and original thrash bands. Could it be that there aren't any?

The 'no' was directed to this bullshit:

It was by no means directed to the list he made.

I can't really think of any thrash bands that don't sound like the big four, to be honest. Terror 2000 was the only one that came to my mind.

Then again, I'm not huge on thrash.

I'm not either, if that wasn't obvious enough.

Which album of Terror 2000's should I check out first?

I'd check out Terror For Sale. I don't know if you'll dig, though. The lyrics on the album are really hilarious and a good selling point for the goofy thrash they do.

If you find it to be the same as the big four style, my apologies. I think they're unique though. You might enjoy them.

Chunky riffs and some cookie monster vox, will be enough to get us signed
Sony music is looking for a band, dude I think I got a plan
In Flames and Soilwork have just sold out, and one of the singers is getting bald
My time has come, I'm gonna be a shooting star
:dio:

Bonded By Blood

the band not the album. You'd think with a name like that they would be Exodus rip offs, but they are not. Don't really sound exactly like one/any of the big four.

Checked out their Myspace, and was relatively pleased. I'll be buying their debut for sure.

However, they're not enough to change my opinion concerning the thrash genre. It's still missing the bands that make black metal far more original.

To be honest, I will agree with you. But that's why I love Thrash. You know, for the most part, what you are going to get. I loves me some thrash. Right now I am listening to a band called Guillotine from Sweden, awesome shit. i can't really think of any other new thrash band that is original and different froma ny other thrash band. But i'd say look into Bywar aswell.
